SENIOR TOWN CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL
On Sunday 18 January we played away to Kerins O’Rahilly’s in the re-play of the 2014 Town Board semi final,
Throw-in for the match was at 12.30 p.m.. The match got off to a slow start and after several attempts by both teams O’Rahilly’s got the scoring under way with a point in the 10th minute and followed with 3 more points. Mitchel’s were unlucky with a goal chance taken by Alan O Donoghue late in the half which was put out for a 45m kick.
Our first score came after 25 minutes kicked over the bar by Stevie O’Mahoney in a move assisted by Sean Maloney.
The first half ended Kerins O’Rahilly’s 0-4 John Mitchel’s 0-1.
Mitchel’s played much better second half and had a lot of possession throughout, we scored 5 points in the half to O’Rahilly’s 2 points, one of which was scored from a well taken free kick by Shane Mc Mahon two from play scored by Alan O Donoghue and a point scored by John Higgins which levelled the match at 6 points each at the end of full time.
The match then went to extra time and 10 minutes each half, both sides were level until the 9th minute when O’Rahilly’s kicked over their 7th point of the match and were in front by a single point (0-7- 0-6) after the 1st period.
In the second period of extra time O’Rahilly’s kicked over their 8 point and followed with the only goal in the match. Mitchel’s put in a great effort to get back on terms and had a chance on goal which was narrowly cleared off the line, our final score came from a well taken point from distance scored by Sean Maloney.
Final Score at the end of extra time, Kerins O’Rahilly’s 1-9 John Mitchel’s 0-7. Kerins O’Rahilly’s go on to play Austin Stacks in the final.

JUVENILES – BOYS
A meeting of the Juveniles – Boys section is scheduled to take place next Wednesday January 21st at 7.30 p.m. in the Ballyseedy Complex. All Trainers, Mentors and anybody interested in helping out would be most welcome to attend.
SENIOR LADIES
Training resumes on Saturday 31st January from 7pm to 8 pm (under lights).
The first round of the County League Is fixed for the 15th February.
CONGRATULATIONS
Last Friday evening at a banquet held in the Ballyroe Height Hotel, the club were proud and delighted when Patriz Brosnan won a Distinction Award at The Lee Strand Garda Youth Achievement Awards. This very prestigious honour was bestowed on only four young people in the whole of Kerry. These awards recognise the outstanding voluntary work done by young people in the county. There were over 100 nominations and 24 young people who were successful were acknowledged on the night.
A citation outlining Patriz’s work was read out on the night and she was presented with a bronze statue and a framed Certificate of Achievement.
Also on the night another Ladies senior team member, Michelle Lynch received a merit award for her voluntary work through her School and wider Community.
Our Club had the honour of also nominating Jordan Bowler and Stephen Reidy, whose tireless voluntary work on behalf of the club is very much appreciated.
Chairperson Matt Moloney, who attended the event, congratulated Patriz, Michelle, Jordan and Stephen on their awards and nominations and encouraged others to get involved in their local clubs and communities.
John Mitchels GAA club would like to congratulate all those who achieved awards on the night and also those who had the honour of being nominated.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership of John Mitchels for 2015 is now open.
2015 membership fees are as follows:
Patron membership €150 ( this includes adult membership, entry to the weekly lotto and free admission to all County League games which can be paid by direct debit),
Adult membership €40,
Students/O.A.P €20,
Juvenile boys and girls €20.
Membership forms are available at the reception at the club complex. Alternatively, the club Registrar will be available to collect membership fees in the clubhouse (John Joe Sheehy road on Tuesday’s from 8.30pm to 9.15pm.
There will be separate juvenile registration days in the coming weeks, details of which will be announced in the next few weeks.
REFEREE’S COURSES
Referee’s In-service course to be held on Monday January 26th at 7.30 p.m. in Kerins O’Rahilly’s Club. Please note that all existing referees who wish to ref this year MUST attend an In-service course.
A Foundation Level Referee’s course for anyone wishing to become a Referee will be held in Tralee in February. This is a four night course. It will be held on February 9th, 11th, 16th and 18th. Venue and times to be decided. If any person is interested in this course please contact Claire Connolly, Club Secretary at Secretary.johnmitchels.kerry@gaa.ie.
BINGO
Our Bingo continues on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights. Bingo is a vital fundraiser for the Club and all funds raised from the Bingo goes directly back into the Club and all support is greatly appreciated.
