Senior ladies who played home to killcummin on Sunday afternoon

Senior Ladies

John Mitchels 1-06 Kilcummin 3-10

Round 2 of the Donal Curtin Cup ended in a home defeat to Kilcummin last Sunday.  Kilcummin were quicker into their stride and opened up a 3 point lead in the opening minutes before a pointed free from Diana O’ Keeffe settled the home side.

Ava Buckley then put John Mitchels in front with a well taken goal but Kilcummin responded in kind to go 2 points up before Diana O’Keeffe reduced the lead with a point from play  and then both teams traded points, Ava Buckley scoring for the home side to leave the scores 1-.4 to 1.03 at half time.

The backs battled hard in the first half keeping the score line tight.Kilcummin started the second half as they had started the first with 3 quickfire points to stretch their lead to 4.  Points from play from both Lily Parker and Rachel Kilgallen reduced the lead to a manageable 2 points but then Kilcummin hit for their second goal with an excellent finish.

The backs were kept going and battled well to put Killcummin at a standstill for a good bit of the game. A lot of defensive work was needed to keep the score as tight as possible This score seemed to unsettle the home side and Kilcummin then tacked on 3 further points to move into an eight-point lead.

Lily Parker reduced the arrears with a well taken point from a long range free but just before full time Kilcummin added their third goal to put a perhaps flattering 10-point margin between the sides at full time.

Despite the result John Mitchels can take a lot of positives from the day.  The club had 20 players at their disposal and this is a huge positive for the promotion of the game for the club at a senior level. Following on from a hard-earned draw against Finuge St. Senans a fortnight ago the club will resume training on Thursday night in preparation for Round 3 of the competition.

John Mitchels Squad. Kayleigh Collins, Julie Foley, Tanya O’Connor, Emma Carmody, Lucie O’Donoghue, Shannon Martin, Erika O’Connor, Sarah Kilgallen, Ashleigh Murphy, Rachel Kilgallen, Diana O’Keeffe, Lily Parker, Ellie O,Rahilly, Ava Buckley, Grace Hamilton, Emma Lynch, Eabha Mullen, Lily Silong, Ava Sharma, Aoife O’Brien.

Under 11 Boys

This week our U11 boys were at home to Killarney Legion. It was great to see all our skills on show but what pleased the coaches the most was our huge work rate off the ball. Thanks to Killarney Legion for a very sporting game. Next week we are away to Milltown Castlemaine.

Under 13 Boys

The U13 Gold team won convincingly in the first half and led by 1:07 to no score. The backs were well on top, and the forwards took the necessary scores to draw the half to a close, the second half was a different story and Laune Rangers found their scoring boots, to ratchet up 3:06.

The Mitchels forwards came through again with a very young team and a kept the score board ticking over with a final scoreline of 2:12 to Mitchels and 3:06 Luane Rangers. Thanks as always to our U11’s who formed part of our squad.

The Green team with a few absentees sent out a much-changed team. We had a debut in goals for Shane Roche and he was as rock solid as ever. Our scores in the first half came with a good spread of players and we lead by 4 at the break.

We went score for score in the second half and battled hard with our younger boys playing out of their skin. Our free taker Ronan Harrington OCallaghan was imperious for us and our midfield covered acres of ground to support both halves of the pitch.

We nicked a win by two points after a late goal from Laune Rangers.

Final scoreline of Mitchels 2:10 2:08 Luane Rangers.
