JOHN MITCHELS v SPA (AWAY)
Mitchels met Spa today in the County Football League Division 2 play off Replay in Brosna.
Conditions were slightly better today with a light breeze. Spa won the toss and played with the wind in the 1st half. Spa started better and raced into a three point lead before Mitchels struck back with points from George Bastible, Stephen O’Mahony and Alan O’Donoghue.
Spa followed up with a further two points from play. Mitchels levelled the game again with points from James Duggan and Stephen O’Mahony leaving the teams tied at five points each.
Spa completely dominated the last quarter of the first half scoring five points in succession leaving the half time score John Mitchels 0-05 Spa 0-10 giving Mitchels a mountain to climb in the second half.
True to Mitchels determination they opened the second half at a blistering pace and within 8 mins had scored 1-02 thanks to two points from James Duggan and a well taken goal from Cian Sheridan.
With both teams level it was all to play for and it was Spa who forged ahead with a point from a free. Sean Moloney levelled the game again with a point from play followed by a Niall Sheehy point from play which put Mitchels ahead for the first time in the game. Spa converted a free levelling the game 1-09 to 0-12.
James Duggan gave Mitchels the lead again with a point from play which was cancelled by a point from play by Spa. With the game looking as if it would go to extra time a long ball was played into Alan O’Donoghue who turned for goal scoring the last point of the game giving Mitchels a 1 point victory over Spa.
Final score John Mitchels 1-11, Spa 0-13.
Mitchels are now promoted to Divison 1 this season.
Great credit must be given to the players and back room team who showed such dedication, commitment and determination in gaining promotion to Division 1 after a long 12 year wait.

CLUB CONVENTION:
The Annual convention was held on Saturday last January 23rd in the clubhourse in Boherbee.
Tributes on the day were paid to Matt Moloney Chairperson and Noel O’Connor Vice Chairperson for all their hard work throughout the year. All Outgoing Officers were returned.
