MitchelsSENIOR TEAM:

John Mitchels played away to Castlemaine/Milltown in Round 2 of the Co. League last Saturday afternoon. Conditions were perfect for football as it was both calm and dry. Mitchels got off to a great start with Michael Wrenn being fouled in the square in the first few minutes of play and Wayne Duggan converting the penalty.

Castlemaine hit back with four unanswered points, 3 from play and one from a free. Mitchels levelled the game again in the 12th minute. Castlemaine scored a further point from play leaving the score 1-01 to 5 points in favour of Castlemaine.

Castlemaine dominated the 2nd quarter scoring 5 points, 3 from play and 2 from frees to Mitchels 1 point from Sean Moloney. With the game nearing the end of the 1st half, a high ball was kicked into the Castlemaine goal and Michael Wrenn deflected it into the net leaving the half time score 2-02 to 0-10.

Castlemaine opened the 2nd half scoring with 2 points from frees to Mitchels 1 point from a free from Alan O’Donoghue. Castlemaine added 3 points from frees leaving the score line 2-03 to 0-15 in favour of Castlemaine.
Mitchels rallied in the final quarter with Lawrence Bastible kicking a long range point which was followed by a Castlemaine point from a free. Further pressure from the Mitchels yielded a well taken goal by Alan O’Donoghue but it was too late to change the final outcome Castlemaine/Milltown 0-16 John Mitchels 3-04.

U14 BOYS:

We travelled to Gneeveguilla last Wednesday for our first game of the County League. We started very slowly and never got into gear in the first half. We trailed 2-9 to 1-4 at the break with the goal coming from Tristan Kirwan. We started the second half brightly and took over for the first 10 minutes of the half with a penalty from Dara Caplis, a well taken Conor Commane goal and another from Tristan Kirwan leaving us in front by 3 points. However Gneeveguilla upped it from there on and we had no answer in the end.
Final score Gneeveguilla 4-20 John Mitchels 4-7.

Best on the night were Robert Kerins and Cormac Clifford at the back, Jordan Mason gave his all in midfield and up front Sean Dillane and Dara Caplis worked tirelessly. Next week we are at home to Listowel where we would be hoping for a big improvement with our first game behind us.

Ben, Cian, Sam, Ted and Andrew showed that they have the skills to go on and become great players. William, Joe, James, Nadal, Darragh and Robert worked very hard and had a great influence on the games. Mark, Cillian, Jack, Gerard, Dathai, Luke and Paddy tackled hard and showed that they have the stuff that makes our team function well. Well done to all the rest of our players and if we keep training we will become a very good team. Well done to the coaches and parents and we will see you all at training next Sunday.
