MitchelsSENIOR TEAM – Division 1 Round 6 Co. League:
We played away to Kenmare today in Fr Breen Park in the 6th Round of Division 1 Co League. This was a vital game for both teams as Mitchels had 1 point after 5 games and Kenmare had no point.

The game kicked off at 2.00 p.m. And the conditions were wet and windy. Mitchels were playing against the wind in the 1st half. Kenmare were first to score with a point from play in the 3rd minute and this was followed by a converted free by Wayne Duggan in the 5th minute.

Scores were hard to come by in the poor conditions and Kenmare took the lead with a point from play in the 10th minute which was followed by a point from a free by Niall Sheehy to level matters. Kenmare scored a further 2 points from play before half time leaving the score at half time Kenmare 0-04 Mitchels 0-02.

With the wind in the 2nd half, Mitchels opened brightly with a point from play from Michael Wrenn in the 2nd minute followed by a point from a free by Wayne Duggan in the 4th minute. Kenmare forged ahead again scoring a point from a free in the 6th minute.

Mitchels responded well by scoring a further 3 points giving them a 2 point lead with time almost up. Kenmare scored a point from play in the 30th minute leaving Mitchels only a point ahead going into injury time.

With 5 minutes of injury time Kenmare pressed for the equaliser but our defence that showed great determination and discipline by not conceding any frees and scored a goal on a break away attack in the final move of the game scored by Shane O’Connor with the assistance of Alan O’Donoghue. Final score Kenmare 0-06 John Mitchels 1-07.
