John Mitchels

SENIOR TEAM
John Mitchels played Round 8 of the Co League against Kilcummin last Saturday evening. This was a crucial game for both teams as John Mitchels were on 3 points and Kilcummin stood at 4 points on the League table. Kilcummin were favourites having beaten Templenoe in the previous round and also having home advantage.

The game threw in at 7.30 p.m. on a dull and calm night. Kilcummin were first on the score board with a point from play. Mitchels scored the next four points Shane O’Connor (0-02), Niall Sheehy one from play and one from a free. Kilcummin were next to respond with a point from a free and one from play.

Mitchels were dominating play and should have scored two or three goals but for some great saves from the Kilcummin goalkeeper. We responded with four points in a row.

Points from play from Alan O’Donoghue, Connor Hurley and Niall Sheehy who also scored a point from a free. Kilcummin rounded off the first half with a point from a free leaving the half time score Kilcummin 0-04, John Mitchels 0-08 which was not a true reflection of Mitchels dominance in the first half.

Kilcummin opened brightly in the 2nd half scoring one goal and two points from play giving them a one point lead. Mitchels responded well with a well taken goal from Alan O’Donoghue and a point each from play by Sean Moloney and Shane O’Connor.

Niall Sheehy kept the scoreboard ticking over with three further points two from frees and one from play. Mitchels were now 7 points ahead and looked comfortable for a win when Kilcummin struck with a late goal and a point from a free reducing the margin to 3 points.

Dermot Raggett made a great save in the Mitchels goal as the ball was heading for the top corner of the net and the resultant counter attack gave Mitchels a fisted point from Alan O’Donoghie leaving the final score Kilcummin (2-07), John Mitchels (1-14). This was a highly entertaining game with a nail biting finish.

We are home to our nearby friendly neighbours Austin Stacks in Round 9 next Sunday July 24th at home in Ballyseedy @ 2.00 p.m. Please come out again and support our Team next Sunday.
