Our annual u-8 and u-10 boys and girls awards night was held in the clubhouse in John Joe Sheehy road on Saturday evening last.

This was very well attended with over 100 players at the event. Each players received a specially commissioned John Mitchels medal, MC for the evening John McEniry welcomed everyone to the event.

He spoke about the additional awards that were going to be presented on the night to individual players who caught the eye of the mentors during the year.

John stressed the difficulty of choosing individuals and stated that as there were lots of contenders, for most of the awards the names were picked out of a hat.

Chairperson Brid McElligott thanked all the players for their attendance at training every Sunday; she also thanks the parents of the players who continue to support the club.

U-8 mentor James O’Donoghue then took to the stage, he told the boys and girls some of the history of John Mitchels.

He spoke about the effect that Sylvie Mason had on youngsters when he was a juvenile and how Sylvie single handedly managed the Coiste Na Og section of the club.

He explained the importance of training and of working of the various skills of the game even in the off season.

John Mitchels and Kerry Junior player Sean Moloney presented the awards to the boys, while John Mitchels and Kerry u-14 ladies Jade Powell and Blathnaid Cotter, Kerry senior player Patrice Dennehy also helped with the presentations.

The award winners on the night were as follows:

U-8 boys – Most improved player of the year – Sam Fitzgerald, Young player of the year – William Sheerin, Player of the year – Andrew Kerins

U-8 Girls – Most improved player of the year – Ciara Poultney and Amy O’Shea, Young player of the year – Mollie Duggan and Lucie O’Donoghue, Player of the year – Ciara Burns and Lily Collins.

U-10 boys

Most improved player of the year – Ciaran White, Young player of the year – Darragh Cunnane, Player of the year – Conor Kerins

U-10 Girls – Most improved player of the year – Taylor Rogers, Young player of the year – Linda O’Connor, Player of the year – Lauren Smullen

After the presentation of awards the juvenile section of the club made special presentation Brid McElligott who will be resigning from her position of Chairperson at the convention on Saturday next.

They thanked Brid for her commitment to the club and especially to the juveniles during her eleven year reign as Chair, they also mentioned their thanks for the fantastic facilities that Brid and her officers are responsible for bring to fruition.

Thanks to the mentors for organising such a great event, to the bar staff and the chef who provided hot food on the night, to Dyanne and Joanna who organized the raffle and to Ambri Boards, O’Donoghue’s Chemist, Peevers Motors, Horans Fruit and Veg,  Shane McMahon and the John Mitchels club who provided the spot prizes for the raffle.

SENIOR MEN

County League

The team played Laune Rangers on Sunday last in the last round of the county league, this was a well matched affair with the lead changing hands many times throughout the game, with four minutes left on the clock we led by a point, Laune Rangers worked hard for the last few minutes and scored a late point to level matters, final score John Mitchels 0-13; Laune Rangers 1-10.

Coiste Tra li Championship

The Coiste Tra Li championship semi-final will either be played on Sunday November 23rd or Sunday December 7th (dependent on the Austin Stacks progression in the Munster Championship.

SENIOR LADIES

The team plays their final game of the season on Saturday next when they take on Finuge/St. Senans in the North Kerry league final, this game is fixed for Saturday at 3pm in Finuge.

U-16 & U-14 & U-12

Plans are underway for the end of season presentation night which will take place shortly, as soon as the date is finalised, parents will be informed by teamer text.

U-16, U-14 & U-12 LADIES

There will be a presentation night shortly where the girls will be presented with the various medals won during the season; parents will be notified of the details well in advance.

BINGO

Our Bingo continues on Wednesday and Friday and Sunday nights. Any member who wishes to volunteer can do so by giving their details to any club officer.

The 2014 convention takes place on Saturday 15th November at 11am in the clubhouse (John Joe Sheehy Road).

Our Sports Complex at Camp Ballyseedy is available for bookings on the Sports Hall and All Weather pitch. The Complex is also open for children’s parties.  Further information contact the Club reception on 066 7197070.
