MitchelsSENIOR TOWN CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL
Replay for the Town Championship between John Mitchels and Kerins O’Rahillys is set for next weekend. Time to be decided.

ACTIVE. RETIREMENT PARTY
The 15th year of the Annual Active Retirement party took place at the John Mitchels Club House, John Joe Sheehy Road last Saturday. The frosty morning and hazardous driving conditions did not deter the volunteers from reporting to duty from 7.30a.m. onwards.

Floors were brushed, carpets hoovered and tables and chairs were laid out with military precision under the watchful eye of Pat.

The Christmas decorations were already in place thanks to some of the Bingo volunteers. Up to 150 Patrons began to arrive from 12.30 dressed in their finery fit for a “ball” and were greeted by a glowing fire and the waft of Turkey and Ham cooking in the kitchen.

Fr Finucane kicked off proceedings by saying Grace and helped the volunteers to serve up a delicious traditional Christmas dinner which was enjoyed by all. Credit is due to John Seymour our Chef and his able Assistant Pat Roche for serving up a beautiful meal.

Santa took time out from his busy schedule to attend the party and numerous spot prizes were raffled and given out.

The O’Shea Brothers, Michael Gaffney and Derry O’Shea provided the music. They definitely have the X Factor in entertaining the crowd and such was the quality of their music that Santa himself took to the dance floor. They played many old favourites which brought many memories back to all present. The dance floor was full and many volunteered to sing their party pieces.

Looking at the smiling faces and hearing the laughter and chit chat made all the hard work worthwhile. Certainly Community and the Active Retirement Party held in John Mitchels go hand in hand.

The whole event could not take place without the army of volunteers and the generosity of the many sponsors from the Community. The following businesses supported the event: O’Donoghue’s Chemist, McElligott’s Undertakers, Lee Strand, Students Union IT Tralee, O’Mahonys Bakery, Lidl, David Powers Butchers, Waddings, O’Sullivans Butchers, Geraldine Cronins Hairdressers, Munster Bar, Every Occasion Florist, Flowers by Ann, Dunnes, Tesco and Gallys.
