MitchelsCOUNTY LEAGUE

John Mitchels 1-13
Glenbeigh/ Glencar 1-6

We came away with two very valuable points last Sunday in a match that we controlled from the start. With both teams missing players it was the Mitchels younger lads who showed their steel on the day and not to forget Alan O’Donoghue with a personal tally of 8 points.

Our scores in the first half came from Alan O’Donoghue 3. Wayne Conway 2. And one each by James Duggan and Sean Moloney. Half time score John Mitchels 0-7 G/G 0-3.

The second half was much the same with Alan O’Donoghue giving G/G backs a torrid time adding 4 more points and James Duggan 1 we were 12 points to 3 in front. G/G added another 3 points to their score to leave the score J/M 0-12 G/G 0-6 with 20 minutes gone in the second half.

Wayne Conway scoring a goal in the 22nd minute and Alan O’Donoghue with another point left us 1-13 to 6 points in front. Glen/Glencar had a goal in the 25th minute, final score John Mitchels 1-13 Glen/ Glencar 1-6.

JUVENILE BLITZ
On Saturday last 19th July, for the 14th consecutive year we held our annual juvenile football tournament for the U-8 & U-10 age groups.

Once again this football blitz was an outstanding success with 24 teams enjoying a great day of football. We had 12 teams at both u-8 and u-10 age groups, these teams were John Mitchels, Austin Stacks, Na Gaeil, Castleisland Desmonds, Churchill, Ballymacelligott, Dingle, Ardfert, Milltown/Castlemaine, Keel, Beaufort and Beale.

In all over 500 players enjoyed a Fantastic day of football and with over sixty games of football played we had many stars of the future on show.

Thanks to all the teams and team mentors who took part on the day, thanks also to the referees who volunteered on the day and made sure that once again this tournament was an outstanding success.

On a club level a huge thank you to chief organiser Kevin McMahon and his team of volunteers, to centre manager Humphrey and to Liam, Noel, Mike and Paudie who worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the event.

Thanks  to the field committee members who ensured all six pitches were lined on the day, to the car park attendants, to the Sunday morning ladies committee who provided home baking and made sure things ran smoothly in the members’ lounge and to the juvenile ladies members who helped run the club shop on the day.

A final thanks to the club chairperson Brid and all the club officers who once again ensured this event was an outstanding success. Well done to all involved.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Jade Powell and Blathnaid Cotter who were part of the Kerry under 14 Ladies team on their victory over Mayo, and also to Rory Kilgallen a mentor on the team.

UNDER 14

We competed out Central League division one games this week. On Monday we had a hard fought win at home to Laune Rangers in a high scoring topsy turvy encounter.

We entertained Stacks on Thursday night minus a number of our regulars and were comprehensively beaten on the night by a physically stronger side .We have 5 points from our 5 games and have to wait for back games to be played to see if we make the semi finals.

When the Central League programme is done we will still have the Castleisland district matches and Brendan’s final to be played so there is plenty to look forward to for the rest of the year.

We will have a week off this week and get back on the road the week after.

GIRLS U12

The girls recorded two great wins against Na Gaeil & Finuge/ St Senans in the North Kerry league last week to leave them sitting nicely on top of the table. The game against Na Gaeil on Wednesday was very competive & we were behind by 5 pts at half time but some great scoring & defending in the second half saw us through by 3 pts in the end.

This game also marked the return of the ever tough Sinead O Donnell after two months out with a broken arm & a visit from the current Rose Of Tralee Hayley O’ Sullivan who posed for photographs & signed autographs for the girls.

We then played Finuge / St Senans, who were down a few players, on Friday evening & put in a good performance to record another good win.
