‘FOODIE Friday’ at a local company celebrated its first birthday this month.

The hugely successful initiative at JRI America in Tralee, Foodie Friday has proven a hit with the 140 employees at the company in the past year.

The Foodie events are designed to promote and highlight one local food producer or seller each week. This has provided a commercial and promotional opportunity to each company as well as a captive audience to trial new menus.

Foodie Friday was developed by JRI America’s Anluan Dunne: “In the past year we have welcomed some amazing producers. The variety and quality of food in Kerry is worth celebrating.  From crepes to pies to curry, paella and doughnuts we have been spoiled for choice.  For JRI America and our employees this is a fun and attractive end to each week. It generates a lot of chat and people keep coming up with new ideas and producers to feature.”

In the course of the year, many other companies in Kerry have started to replicate the idea. In the Kerry Technology Park, credit unions and other businesses, foodie events are proving very popular.

To mark the first anniversary of the initiative, JRI America ran a charity festive doughnut decorating competition. John Dough’s, the first Foodie Friday vendor, supplied the doughnuts with prizes for competitors. Staff gave generously and raised €500 which will go to the Saint Vincent de Paul.
