JUVENILE ACADEMY

Ballyrickard was the place to be at 11am on Sunday last where the sun was shining for the juvenile training.  All the children practiced and learned new skills under the watchful eyes of their dedicated coaches.

The U10 girls had Churchill visiting them in a challenge game and the whole panel played really well as parents watched on enjoying some delicious home baking & a warm cuppa.  Well done to all involved.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Huge congratulations to:

U6 Boys – Odhran Colhoun

U6 Girls – Abbey Gallagher

U8 Girls – Hannah O’Sullivan

U8 Boys – Evan Griffin

U10 Boys – Ryan Molloy

U12 BOYS

The U12s clocked up back to back victories over the last week.  Firstly, they made the long journey to Renard for the third county league game of the year, but it was well worth it as they won out on a scoreline of Kerins O’Rahillys 5-19 Renard 2-4.

Captain, Jamie McCarthy led by example in the early stages with a goal and three points.  Renard kicked their first two points of the day before Daniel McCarthy was on the end of two exceptional moves to finish to the net.

Renard continued to fight back and struck for two goals but our boys dominated the remainder of the second half with a further brace of goals from Jamie and another four points.  Nick, Jude and Brayden got on the score sheet to leave the scores 5-11 to 2-2 at half time.

The second half saw Nick Lacey add four points and Odhran Foley and Luke O’Brien drove through for scores.  In the end we were comfortable winners with great performances all over the pitch.  Man of the Match: Jamie McCarthy

The U12s continued their winning streak with another victory at home to Cromane.  Jamie Mc Carthy opened the scoring with three great points and this was followed quickly by a goal from Daniel Mc Carthy.

Cromane began to settle well at this stage and it was very close right up to half time where a goal from Jamie and points from himself and Ruairi Kennedy left us one point in front at 2-08 to 2-07.

We got off to a great start in the second half with two great goals from Daniel McCarthy giving him a hat trick for his day’s work and another goal from Jamie as well as some very well taken points from Jamie, Ruairi and William Higgins.

Evan Daly had a great game in goals and even got a run outfield when Ciaran Griffin took a break from the backs where he had an outstanding game.

Brendan Meehan was his usual hardworking self and never took his eye off the ball and worked so well with Ruairi Kennedy who made some massive runs, scoring five points  and linking the whole game together all day.

Cillian McGrath, Sean O’Mahoney and Odhran Foley did trojan work in both halves and made life very difficult for their markers all day.  Ruairi Kennedy, Luke O Brien, Ryan Onyekwere and William Higgins along with Jamie Mc Carthy worked tirelessly all day and showed some great skills and some lovely hand passing.

This was a great display by all the boys and especially on a day when we were missing six of our players.  Next game is at home to Desmonds.  Man of the Match: Daniel McCarthy

U14 BOYS

U14’s played at home on Saturday last to St Pats.  It was a very early throw-in for both sides with the boys in blue quickly out of the traps and assisted by a strong breeze, they raced into a half time lead of 5-12 to 0-0 with Tomas Kennedy grabbing 4-03, his brother Ruairi getting 0-2, Cillian Hussey 0-2, Jamie Mac 1-2, Ryan Houlihan 0-1 and Odhran Kerins 0-2.

Strand Road to their credit were playing some nice football and kicked for scores with great accuracy.  The backs had a quiet day at the office with Daniel, Cian, Jake and Seamus controlling their territory with ease.

In the second half the Narries adopted more of a running game, setting up some great moves and restricting St Pats to the minimum amount of  possession to run out winners.

It was great to see Josh Hoare making his U14 debut in this match and he played his part in this victory so well done Josh.  Our final game in the county league is away to Dingle next Wednesday evening, 1st May at 7pm where we hope to continue our winning streak.

U16 GIRLS

We were away to Beale/Ballyduff on Wednesday last.

In what was a very competitive game we won well in the end on a scoreline of 8 -02 to 3-04 but in truth the game was very competitive all through with both teams playing a similar direct style of moving the ball quickly from the backline to the forwards.

Thankfully our backs were on top for much of the game which gave us the edge all through.  Our tactics from the start of playing Liana Williams and Katie Nix up front proved to be very successful with a few early goals by both putting us in the very strong position of being 5 -01 to 1-03 in front by half time.

Kelly Fitzgerald was once again excellent, finding her target on every kickout which is the launchpad for many of our attacks and crucial to our game plan.

In the back line Alex Sheridan was steady as a rock along with Hollie Leane and Katie Dwyer who were both solid all through the game.

Both Eugenie  Kerins and Maedhbh Hananfin were outstanding from the starting whistle right to the final one, out in front for every ball and hunting like tigers when they were not in possession.

The constant attacking play meant they had a really busy night but both excelled as did all our backs.  Our midfielders had a tough evening in that both of their players were the opposition’s best two on the field but they tried hard.

Eadrea Hayes was once again very good at wing forward and as a link player delivered good quality ball into the inside line.  Her performances have greatly improved but it’s not surprising in that she has turned up to every training session since last February and plays minor and U16.  Her football has greatly improved because of it.

We do have forwards who have work to do and need to really put time in on their own to get to the level they need to be at as any mistake on the field is punished by the opposition.

Another two players who never miss training are Katie Nix and Liana Williams.  Katie finished with a total of 3 -01 on the night, playing at U16 when she is still U14.

She excels in open fast ball situations and the question remains as to why she is not with the Kerry U14s squad this weekend?  It’s a mystery to all of us and equally the Beale/Ballyduff selectors who simply could not understand why she is still not part of that squad.

She was excellent on the night and her finishing score reflects this.  Liana once again proved to be the most dangerous footballer on the field scoring 5-01 and is consistently playing the best football of her life both for the club and at school level.

No defender could touch her and they tried more than once but with little success.  She is now equally strong turning off both right and left legs, powerful when in possession and lethal in front of goals with both feet.

When one looks at County teams right now there might be 10 footballers at U16 equal or better than her but there’s no way in the world there are 30 footballers playing better than her and it’s our opponents who are telling us that even though we can clearly see it ourselves.

Footballers like her deserve to be playing at county level or at least given the chance to prove themselves and hopefully she gets that chance.

We have one more county league game in less than two week’s time where we are at home to Dr Crokes and this will determine if we make a county league semi-final and it may also determine who that opposition might be.

They are a very good side and have had some very good results so far as you’d expect from a club like that, but these are the games we train for and are looking forward to the challenge.
