Senior County League Division 1

Kerins O Rahillys 0-12   Gneeveguilla 1-09

Gneeveguilla were the visitors to Strand Road last Sunday for round 5 of the county league. Gneeveguilla opened the scoring early on , and in the sixth minute we equalised through the boot of Tom Hoare. Two minutes later the same player would put us ahead with a close in free. The visitors would then score the next three points to lead 4 points to 2 on the twenty minute mark. Our next two scores came from frees from Barry John Keane and Tom Hoare, Gneeveguilla would add two more before another free from Barry John Keane on the stroke of half time left the side level at 6 points apiece.

The first half was a very scrappy affair with the home side finding it difficult to breakdown the defensive set up of the East Kerry side. Poor handling and lots of unforced errors made it difficult for the home team to get any fluency into their game.

The second half opened with a fine score from the impressive Tom Hoare after a powerful run from the same player. Again Gneeveguilla equalised .

The hosts then had their best patch of the contest scoring three unanswered points in a six minute period, coming from a Barry John Keane free , and two great scores form Cormac Coffey and another Barry John effort.

It was at this point that O’Rahillys really should have killed off the tie , but as was the trend of the day , some sloppy passing, and unforced errors saw us fail to extend the lead despite have three or four good scoring opportunities.Gneeveguilla to their credit kept battling away and narrowed the gap to the minimum with four minutes remaining.

Gneeveguilla then raced upfield and cut through the blues defence to scramble the ball to the net, a massive score coming so late and it didn’t look good for the home side.
However they didn’t give in and didn’t panic and this paid off with two excellent late points from Barry John Keane, who kicked brilliantly all afternoon, to level the tie.

So a share of the spoils it was to be. The blues will feel it was a game they should have won, however they could also a lost it. The loss to injury of Conor Hayes was a blow as this limited our scoring threat. Once again Shane Foley was solid in goals, Cormac Coffey drove us on with regular sallies up the field, newcomers Stephen Nix and TJ Heaphyaquired themselves well again, Tom Hoare and Sean Walsh worked hard around the middle, and upfront Gavin O Brien won a lot of primary possession and the accuracy of Barry John Keane was key to us securing a valuable point.

The senior side have now have a  break until the visit of Rathmore in two weeks time.

GAELIC4GIRLS

A great way to make new friends as the girls are doing while enjoying football which is new for some. Happy, happy faces last week when they saw that their colourful jerseys had arrived. Don’t worry if you missed out this week as we will see you next week with your jerseys.

U12 GIRLS

With each game we play it’s showing more and more that every  player is tuning in during each  training sessions and then demonstrating what they are learning during games. Your listening skills are paying off girls…

We are very fortunate  to have a great panel of wonderful young ladies this year and delighted to be able to say that each player gets plenty of game time . Each player plays a part in building our panel.

STRAND ROAD BLUES

As the sun dropped around the sidelines of Currow pitch ,our spectators were lined up outside the flags to watch a game of underage football that the girls themselves enjoyed. Playing 13 a side proved useful in getting as many from each panel out onto the pitch.

Despite the final score line our girls put in a titanic battle from start to finish. Jessie Griffin won the the throw in , passed the ball into Nicola who was dispossessed . U10 Ava O’ Donoghue who wasn’t giving up, won the ball and scored the first point of the game.

Early on we were a little hesitant and guilty on some poor decision making in attack. Currow looked threatening from the start and after scoring their first point struck for goals. We tried to work  our way back into the game .Emily Corridon’s kick outs always found the right range and target . Muireann McCarthy made a few great kick blocks whilst our captain on the night Ruby Foley fulfilled her role well with her leadership skills. Also rock solid in the backs was Ellie Marie Hobbert . Rachael Ahern sent good ball into Nicola Corridon with her accurate hand passes and kick passing. The incisive running of Yvie Ross, Jessie Griffin , Meabh Kennedy and Sarah McGrath along with the hard graft of U10 Hannah O’ Sullivan and U10 Katelynn O’ Brien was only incredible . Caoimhe Somers constantly fought for the ball midfield as did Sarah McGrath. Each player never gave up throughout the game as they tried to get to grips with a physically stronger team.

We may not be strong in this division but will be regraded  for the Co. League which commences on May 11th. The girl are truly an awesome bunch and enjoy their training and games…

Next Wednesday, May 4th we are away to John Mitchels in the plate final of the Co. League, division 4. Looking forward to seeing plenty of support for our young ladies . Best of luck to everyone!

KERINS O’ RAHILLY TEAM

The girls travelled the short distance to Na Gaeil last Wednesday evening for round 5 of the North Kerry league in the breezy sunshine.

We were dealt with a blow before the start of the game with the loss of Niamh Lynch. It certainly put our team on notice that they needed to step up but that they did in spades.

Holly Pierce made her debut for the team and put in a great performance in the back line. Each player from numbers 1 to 13 worked hard and are just fantastic representing our club and their families.

Through excellent team work , captained by Kelly Fitzgerald and some fantastic interplay between all team members, Kerins O’ Rahillys went into an early lead and despite strong opposition from a talented Na Gaeil side, we held onto our  lead with brilliantly worked points and emerged victorious.

A local derby next Wednesday… we host Austin Stacks in the shield final, division 2 North Kerry League. All support welcome! Best of luck to to everyone!

U14 GIRLS

In the final round of the Non Co. player county league we are away to Na Gaeil next Sunday, May 8th. Throw in will be at 4p.m.

There was no county league fixture last week because of Féile. This time next week Féile will be behind us and we will be preparing for the county league which commences on May 29th.

FÉILE

Coming up to the May bank holiday…one great piece of news is the return of the Féile competition which is now for U15s after a two year hiatus.

Our club are only delighted to be hosting teams in both Strand Road and Ballyrickard. Looking forward to seeing our girls who are in division 3 in action. Best wishes to everyone!

This time ten years ago our U14 Boys did us proud and won the county Féile. That year Portlaoise hosted and what a great weekend was had by all who travelled… great memories!

In 2016 Kerry was the venue for Féile and our U14 girls and boys and families hosted players from other clubs around the country.

Our U14 girls also travelled to Tyrone many moons ago and if not mistaken our U14 boys did  in 2002  after winning county Féile and represented us .

Great memories.. Kerins O’ Rahilly past players

CONDOLENCES

Everyone  is deeply saddened by the loss of Joe Hanley who passed away last week. Only the week before last we were privileged to have Joe join us in Strand Road pitch to take photos of a few of our U14s with their new jerseys, their sponsor Darren Horan of Stoves 4U, manager Mark and coach Rory. Little did we know that this was the last time we would meet . Thank you Joe for everything you have done for us. Rest in peace dear Joe.

Kerins O’ Rahilly’s U9 Boys who enjoyed Go Games in Ballyrickard last week

Juvenile Academy Notes:
Juvenile academy training continued last Sunday. There was a great buzz around the place with so many children attending as always. You could here the laughter and enjoyment from miles away.

The coaches as always are set up and ready to go at 10am and get carried away at times with all the fun and forget that the hour is up. All children have made huge improvements and their coaches are encouraging them to practice as much as they can during the week at home with family and friends.

Well done to two of our U10 Girls Stevie Rose and Ina who found an engagement ring after their training, which had been lost by a couple last Sunday evening while attending an U13 Game. The owner was very grateful and gave the girls a well deserved reward.
We are hoping to start go games in the coming weeks also so please keep an eye on ClubZap for all your updates and information. A member of our Juvenile committee is always available during Academy on Sunday mornings should you need any assistance with ClubZap or if you have any questions please come to the office and they will be more than happy to help you. If you have any queries in the mean time please contact us on 086 3741301 or email: info@kerinsorahillys.com.
