SENIORS

Ballymacelligott  2-06

Kerins O Rahilly’s 0-10

Last Saturday evening our senior side travelled to Ballymac for round 10 of the Division 1 County League. The weather on the day was never going to allow for free flowing football, and both teams struggled greatly with the elements.

Lining out without a large number of regulars , which allowed us to give game time to some of our fringe players , the game was always going to be difficult against a home side who needed the win to assure survival in the division.

On the balance of things the home side were deserved winners. The concession of two soft goals midway through the first half were to be the decisive scores in the game, both coming from speculative long balls into the square, which we failed to deal with.

That put Ballymac into an eight point lead, and it was always going to be a huge challenge to claw the lead back.

By half time we had reduced the deficit to four, the score 2-03 to -05.
Our scores coming from Gearoid Savage and Barry John Keane with two frees and point from play from Con Barrett (1) and Sean Walsh (2).

Ballymac got off to the better start in the second half extending their lead with an early point. We were dealt another blow shortly after with the dismissal of Con Barrett.

Despite this we held the lions share of possession and tried hard to get back into the game. We had points from Diarmuid O Sullivan , two well executed kicks from placed balls, and frees from Gearoid Savage and Barry John Keane, to leave the minimum between the side with six minutes to go.

From the next restart , we manufactured a close in free when Danial Bowler was pulled down, Barry John Keane converted the resultant free to tie the contest 2-04 to 0-10. However Ballymac finished the stronger kicking two late scores to take the points and secure their Division 1 status for 2023.

U12 GIRLS
The weather was very kind to both teams for our round 7 games of the Co. League…not that the weather was bothering anyone when our young ladies and coaches saw the wonderful surprise that was in store for them, a gorgeous set of jerseys for both teams kindly sponsored by Eleanor and Roy of Sandy Feet Farm . We appreciate your generosity.

We had to cancel our pizza party sponsored also by Eleanor and Roy last Saturday because of the yellow weather warning for rain… there would have been no enjoyment in it . Plenty of time yet though!

Looking fab are the U12 Strand Road Blues team in their new jerseys kindly sponsored by Sandy Feet Farm.

Juvenile Notes
The weather didn’t stop our juveniles from training on Sunday morning. A lot of them braved the elements and had great fun training with their coaches. All age groups enjoyed their training sessions learning key skills and finishing with a game to put them into practice. We re hoping for better weather next Sunday as academy continues at 10am in Ballyrickard.
U5s, U7s U9s and U11s Boys- had a great mornings training. The coaches in each group were very impressed that the weather did not deter them from training and showing how well they can play in wet conditions. This week the coaches have asked that they practice their kicking and hand passing as much as they can at home.

U6, U8 and U10 Girls  – put in a great training session last Sunday morning in each of their groups. Our U6 s really pushed themselves despite the weather and showed great skills in wet conditions. Our U8s and U10s worked on clearing the ball quickly when they get their hands on it.

They practiced kicking with accuracy and speed of kicking the ball, followed by a small sided game to put what they had worked on to the test. Practice at home this week is 20 kicks everyday off a wall or to a partner.

All three groups U6s U8s and U10s Girls have go games away to Churchill next Sunday 3rd July 2022 meeting at Churchill pitch for 9.15am further details will be sent through clubzap app during the week. Please ensure you are added to your age group if not please message admin on ClubZap.

U13 Boys – Despite their best efforts our U13 boys lost to Glenfesk in the semi final on a score line of 5-13 to 3-7 the boys put in a fantastic effort they played some fantastic football and deserved more on the night goals came from Cian Fitzgerald, Ryan Nix and goal of the night came from Kevin Horgan, other scorers on the night were Jude Lacey and Barry Sullivan. With Cayden Roche and Christian Dunne running their socks off in midfield. All boys put in huge work and all the subs who played their part when they came on it was great effort from everyone.  Training continues in Ballyrickard on Tuesday at 6.15pm.

Summer Camp – Spaces are filling up fast for our Annual summer camp running from 2nd to 5th August 10.30am to 2pm.  Don’t miss out on this fantastic camp.
