Credit Union Co League

The Co League resumes next weekend and Round 4 sees both of our senior sides in action.  The Senior A panel have three points from their first three games after victory over Na Gaeil, defeat to Dr Crokes and the controversial draw last time out versus Rathmore.

We are scheduled to travel to Dingle on Saturday next with the throw-in timed for 7pm.  The home side sit in joint-second place in the table on four points after two wins and one loss and have an almost identical scoring difference to O’Rahillys, with ironically, only one point separating the sides.  Strand Road welcomed county star, David Moran back from injury a fortnight ago and it will be interesting to see if David’s recovery continues in West Kerry.

His inclusion would certainly be welcome as it will be difficult to take the two points on offer in Dingle.  A win would certainly keep O’Rahillys at the business end of Division 1, particularly with leaders An Ghaeltacht facing a tricky away tie with recently crowned Premier Junior champions, Na Gaeil.  Keep an eye on our social channels – Facebook, Twitter and kerinsorahillys.com for updates.

Our Senior B team will be hoping to get back to winning ways after going down to a slick Scartaglin side last time out.  It won’t be easy though as we must also travel to Dingle with the game scheduled to throw-in at 2pm on Sunday next.

Our hosts sit two points below us in the table with one win from their first three games and will surely see home advantage as an opportunity to climb the table.  We were impressive in our opening two victories, but as always, the availability of players will be crucial to O’Rahillys.  Again, check our social channels for updates.  All support welcome for both of our panels.

Club U17 Football 9-a-side competition

This new competition begins on Wednesday, 22nd May next in Ballyrickard.  Round 1 consists of eight groups containing three teams each and we are drawn in Group 3.  We will be hosting Castlegregory and the three-club combination of Knocknagoshel/Brosna/Duagh.

Our game versus Castlegregory throws in at 6.45pm and this is followed by our clash with Knocknagoshel/Brosna/Duagh at 7.25pm.  The final group game sees Castlegregory take on the St Kierans/Duagh combination at 8.05pm.

The idea of the competition is to provide every club that enters with a minimum of 2 nights of competition and the teams that qualify for the finals get a third day of action.  24 Clubs are playing in the Competition this year and 16 teams will qualify for the finals day.  Results from last year’s U16 County League and geographical location were taken into consideration when putting the Round 1 Groups together.  At the end of Round 1, the finishing position of each team in the group will determine where they play in Round 2.

The Academy, which runs every Sunday morning in Ballyrickard at 11am is going from strength to strength.  Last Sunday, the sun was shining again and all the children practiced their skills. A big thank you to their committed coaches, who give it their best every Sunday morning.  The parents watched on enjoying a chat & a warm cuppa.  We are delighted to welcome John Mitchels’ full academy to Ballyrickard next Sunday the 26th May at 11am.

SNIPPETS from “top of the right”

·         Well done to Ben Hanafin on his call-up to the Kerry U15 Development Squad, where he joins fellow Blues, TJ Heaphy, Sean Healy, Eric McMahon, Danny Hennessy, Darragh O’Connor and Jack Savage.

·         What’s the score?  The Snippets Man hears that Ger O’Brien (the PRO – not Mush) won the €20 house prize at the Club Lotto draw on Monday night last.

·         It couldn’t happen to a nicer fella…(said O’Brien)…
