Acorn Life Co U21 Championship Preview

We are at home on Tuesday 6th August next to St Brendans in the first round of this year’s U21 championship.  Throw-in at Strand Road is at 7pm.  The management team of Martin Nix, Ray Walsh, Morgan Nix and Con Barrett have assembled a strong squad, with a good number already involved with the extended senior panel.  Shane Foley will surely start in goals, with Sean Collins and Rory O’Connor anchoring the defence, which should also feature the Mangan brothers, Kieran and Aidan, along with Barry and Jordan Foley.  Darragh McElligott and Tom Hoare are regulars with the senior team and they could form the midfield partnership.  The forward sextet could also include senior panellists such as Gearóid Savage, Gearóid Dillane, Aaron Roche, Donagh O’Brien, Conor Hayes, Sean Griffin and All Ireland U20 winning hurler, Shane McElligott.  The panel will also be bolstered by some of the club’s minor panel such as Stephen Nix, Darragh Fitzgerald, Conor O’Sullivan and TJ McMahon.  All support welcome.

Central Region Minor Football League semi-final

On Thursday next, August 8th, we travel to Glenbeigh to face Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane, with throw-in at 7pm.  All spport welcome.

SUMMER CAMP 2019

Healy Park, Ballyrickard was a hive of activity last week as 140 girls and boys were in attendance to participate in our annual summer camp. We were blessed with fantastic weather all week, so much so that we had to finish up on Friday with ice cream for everyone.

Our camp was coordinated as always by former Kerry footballer and club member Declan Quill. Thanks Declan . We had an excellent squad of coaches ensuring that the children in attendance had an excellent week of coaching with fun and games. Many new friendships were made along the way.

We would like to welcome the new girls and boys who joined us and look forward to seeing you at training next Sunday.

Thanks to Claire, Jennifer, Karon and Mary who came to help out during lunch. Thanks also to Shirley for preparing lunch daily for our hungry coaches who were spoilt rotten.

SNIPPETS from “top of the right”

·         Congrats to clubman, Shane McElligott and all the Kerry U20 hurlers on their All Ireland victory over Down.

·         Congrats also to David Moran and Tommy Walsh, both of whom featured in Kerry’s win over Meath which clinched top spot in Group 1 of the Super 8s.  David was imperious again at midfield and Tommy made a telling contribution when introduced during the second half, with his experience and ball-winning ability proving vital at a crucial stage in the match.

CONDOLENCES

All at the club wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Dersie O’Sullivan of Rae Street Bungalows and formerly 11 Upper Strand Street.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
