SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1
Kerins O Rahillys 0-13       Kenmare Shamrocks 2-09
The opening round of the senior club championship saw us come up just short against Kenmare Shamrocks on Saturday afternoon in Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney.

The opening half saw Kenmare take an early in the first minute.
Minutes later we responded with a Jack Savage point , however we then conceded a goal in the 6th minute.

We responded well after this scoring three unanswered points, Jack Savage with 2 frees and Danny O’Sullivan kicking an impressive score from distance, to bring us back on level terms.

Kenmare then struck for their second goal following a lapse in defence.
After a point from play by Tom Hoare we suffered a major blow with the loss through injury of Tommy Walsh with five minutes to go to half time.

Again we worked hard to end the half on level terms thanks to the accuracy of the impressive Jack Savage who kicked three points in a row from placed balls, including a 45.

The second half saw us take a strong foothold at midfield , with David Moran storming into the game, with some fine fielding and strong runs through the heart of the Kenmare defence. The half continued with both sides trading point for point , without the ball winning influence of Tommy Walsh we were finding it extremely difficult to create opportunities and get scores.
Frees from Savage were keeping us in touch.

With eight minutes remaining we opened up a two point lead following points from Barry John Keane and another Jack Savage free.

At this juncture we very much fancied our chances to take the spoils.
County star Sean O’Shea then showed his quality with two late points , the later on the stroke of full time when we turned the ball over in our own half and O’Shea split the posts from a tight angle into the dressing room end.
With the officials adding on six additional minutes it was anyone’s game at this point.

Alas it was our opponents who took the initiative scoring two late points to secure a hard fought win after we again turned over balls in our own half late on.

So a disappointing start to our club championship campaign, ultimately the loss of Tommy Walsh and injury depriving us of Patrick Begley, Ryan O Carroll and Gavin O’Brien proved to be too much to contend with on the day.

Next up is Dr Crokes away this Saturday evening and hopefully some of our injuries will have cleared up giving us a stronger panel to pick from.

Best performers on the day were team captain Ross O’Callaghan,Cormac Coffey and Danny O’Sullivan in defence. At midfield after a slow start David Moran impressed and was ably assisted by Shane Brosnan. Jack Savage was our standout player on the day and with out his accuracy from frees the margin would have been far greater.
