SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2
Dr Crokes 1-10.   Kerins O Rahillys 0-11
The second round of the senior club championship saw us lose narrowly to Dr Crokes on Saturday afternoon in Lewis Road Killarney.
We started the game brightly with three early points from, David Moran, Sean Walsh and a free from Jack Savage. The home side opened their account in the tenth minute and shortly after Jack Savage pointed following a big turnover by Karl Mullins in the middle of the field to make the score four points to one in our favour.
Crokes then got the next score .
This was quickly followed by a pointed free after some good work by Sean Walsh.
Dr Crokes responded with two quick fire points from the boot of Tony Brosnan.
At this juncture the game turned with a Dr Crokes goal.
A speculative ball was lobbed across the square and came back out off the far post and into the waiting hands of a Dr Crokes player who made no mistake in finishing to the bottom corner of the net. They quickly followed with two more point to make the score 1-6 to -05 with the half almost up.
However we finished the half strongly with two points from play from Jack Savage and Karl Mullins to leave us trailing by two at the half time whistle.
We again opened the half brightly with a pointed free from Jack Savage to leave the minimal between the teams .
Both teams then traded points , but despite we having the lions share of possession we were finding it difficult to put scores on the board to reward us for our efforts.
Midway through the half we managed to tie the scores at 1-07 to -10 after another Karl Mullins point and a free from Savage.
Crokes quickly regained the lead and in the 24th minute a point from David Moran To equalise was to be our last.
The hosts finished the stronger and their more potent forward unit kicked two late points to edge the contest with a two point victory.
In an evenly matched game the first half goal proved to be the significant difference between the sides.
The absence of the injured Tommy Walsh was a major loss for O’Rahillys and the late introduction of Gavin O’Brien was too little to late.
The late withdrawal of Danny O’Sullivan also stretched our resources on the bench.
Overall it was good display , and the lads could not be faulted for their effort.
Next up is the final game in the group this Saturday evening when we host Templenoe in a must win fixture, hopefully some of our injuries will have cleared up giving us a stronger panel to pick from.
Best performers on the day were team captain Ross O’Callaghan,Cormac Coffey and Karl Mullins in defence. At midfield David Moran again impressed .Jack Savage was again our standout attacker kicking the majority of our scores.

JUVENILE ACADEMY & LADIES NOTES.
Our young girls and boys and their parents enjoyed yet another training session last Sunday morning on our pitches in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard . It was fantastic as always to see so many happy faces.
We in Strand Road put great emphasis on fun and child development during our training sessions . We like to instil values in children to help them in life as they grow older such as teamwork, discipline and fair play – everyday values for life!
During our Juvenile Academy, children are introduced to sport in a friendly , fun and safe environment, not just concentrating on GAA skills but also on fundamental skills known as the ABC’s- Agility, Balance and Coordination.
Children grow , develop and learn at different rates throughout their lives . We have dedicated coaches to look after your  childrens’ needs.
There are many different skills involved in the game of Gaelic football. It’s very important at every age group the whole way up that we do these skills with our girls and boys.
Our coaches were delighted to see great improvements in everyones’ skills. This week we are encouraging all children to practise their soloing at home . If anyone is having difficulty please don’t hesitate to call your coach aside and ask . We also have skill sheets, if you would like them please contact Adrian .
Please ensure your child brings their mouth guard and their own labelled bottle of water to training.
Thanks to everyone for adhering to Covid -19 guidelines.
Teas and coffees available for parents during training, call over to us in the hut.
Thank you to our underage players who help out during Juvenile Academy.
