Senior Town Championship Semi Final.

John Mitchels 2-14

Kerins O’Rahillys 1-15

A goal from John Mitchels in the last kick of extra time secured their passage to this years senior town championship final. In a game played in perfect conditions both teams lined out short a number of regulars. O’Rahillys were without The services of David Moran,Jack Savage,Tommy Walsh and Gavin O’Brien.

Mitchels races into an early lead kicking three unanswered point. We then wasted some good opportunities with some poor finishing before we got off the mark.
Midway through the first half Mitchels took a commanding lead when they converted from the penalty spot.

We added two points to make the half time score 1-5 to -04.
Both teams traded points in the second half and after a good period of dominance the visitors had narrowed the gap to just two points.

Then came one of our best moves of the evening which involved the now very influential Sean Walsh, Conor Hayes and Ryan O Carroll which resulted in a penalty for the blues.

The resulting spot kick was expertly despatched to the bottom left corner by Ryan O’ Carroll to put us into the lead just before the water break.

Both teams exchanged scores right up to end , and with us trailing by the minimal Barry John Keane equalised from thirty yards out on the left just at the  final whistle , to end the game all square at the end of normal time and send the contest into extra time.

Extra time saw both sides use their panel as legs began to tire. With mistakes and unforced errors now marring the game scores were proving very hard to come by.

We did manage to move into a two point lead with the extra time almost up. However we were caught with a sucker punch at the death when our defence was marked absent ,leaving an opposing forward all on his own to receive a ball and give goalkeeper Shane Foley , who had been steady throughout , no chance with the finish.

There was no way back for us and the final whistle blew seconds later.

ACADAMH NA nÒG
Stunning day for football! We were delighted to see such a great turnout last Sunday morning for Academy training. It was wonderful to see grandparents come to watch after some of the restrictions have been eased.
We do ask though that everyone continues to  adhere to the guidelines .

We will be delighted with any new girls and boys who want to come down and join us.
Football is a great opportunity for kids to become involved in a team sport , make new friends , develop fine motor skills and keep fit , and most importantly  to have loads of fun.

U12 GIRLS
On Tuesday last we  faced Austin Stacks in the second round of the Town League. Goalie Allie Kerins made some great saves, backs – Niamh Lynch, Donna O’Regan, Katie Higgins, Sophie Culloty, Farah  Leahy and Mia Molloy fought tooth and nail in defence . Aoibheann McCarthy and Taylor Stack made a great pairing in midfield, and there were outstanding performances by forwards Fiadh McCarthy, Saoirse McCarthy, Córa Meehan, Megan Gaynor, Aoife O’Connell and Lexi Keane. The bench, consisting of Carragh Houlihan, Anna Corridon, Taylor Kate Leane Aoibhinn Corridon , Kelly Hayes and Erika Slattery all made an impact when they came on. Teams were neck and neck throughout the game, the girls fought very hard and never gave up but were edged out in the end by a very strong Austin Stacks team. Final score 3-05 to 2-06.
Well done to everyone!

UNDER 14 Boys

Our U14s played Beaufort in their final County League last Saturday in St.Rd,in which was a crossover of Divisions. The boys hit the ground running quickly from the throw in playing lovely football by moving the ball quickly with wonderful kick passing and built up a 2-4 to 1-0 lead at the 1st waterbreak. We knew Beaufort weren’t going to give up that easily and to their credit they hit us for a few goals after the waterbreak to take the lead but the boys regrouped and took control of the half again and went in leading 4-7 to 4-1at H/T.Into the 2nd half and the boys continued to play excellent football right through to the final whistle to comfortably win out in the end on a score of 5-17 to 5-6.With our goalie making important saves, our backs defending excellently as a unit and setting up many attacks, our midfield dominating and supporting defence and attack and our forwards kicking lovely scores and making excellent runs this really was an all round team performance in which the highlight was the quick movement and kick passing against a bigger and stronger team. Finally we’d like to thank all the parents for their support and help throughout the season and especially like to thank all the players for their commitment and effort they put into training and matches throughout the season.
