WEEKLY NEWS

Annual Mass

The annual mass for deceased members and their families will be held in the Club Room on Thursday next, 4th April at 7.30pm.

Senior Panel

Our Senior squad had a challenge game with the Kerry U20s on Sunday morning last.  This match was very beneficial for both sides for their upcoming respective campaigns.  The U20s, with a squad full of All-Ireland winners at minor level came out victorious.  Our Seniors now focus on the first round of the Club Championship against Rathmore in Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday with a 1.30pm throw-in.  That the East Kerry outfit will provide stern opposition can be in no doubt, especially in light of their Credit Union Co League win last week over our recent conquerors, Dr Crokes.

CÚINNE NA NÓG

The U16s start their Central Region campaign on Monday 1st April, away to Milltown at 7pm.

The U14s start the County League on Wednesday evening, 3rd April away to Duagh at 7pm.

The U12s play in the County League on Sunday next, April 7th, at 6.30pm at home to Gneeveguilla.

JUVENILE ACADEMY

The Academy was in full swing in Ballyrickard last Sunday morning at 11am.  The sun was shining and the children were all enjoying practicing & learning new skills.  Thanks to all their coaches.  The parents watched on enjoying a warm cuppa.  Huge congratulations to our players of the week which were as follows:

U6 Girls: Chloe Carrol

U6 Boys: Akselsl Rodenbiker

U8 Boys: Cayden O’Sullivan & Conor Ryan

U8 and U10 Girls: Aoibhinn Corridon & Emma Onyekere

U10 Boys: Eoghan Behan

U10 GIRLS

Preparation is underway for our trip to Croke Park on Monday, April 15th. The girls have been given sponsorship cards to fill. Please support. You can also support them by buying lines in Jimmy’s shop.

Last Saturday, we headed over to Legion Killarney for the first Kerry Ladies U10 Go Games blitz. Thanks to everyone for organising it and to Legion for organising it.

U12 GIRLS

We headed back west to Gallarus early last Sunday on a glorious morning.  Well done to the girls and their mentors.  Final score KOR 5-4, Corca Dhuibhne 4-7.  There’s a 5-goal rule in operation for U12s so our sixth goal was converted to a point.

U14 GIRLS

We were home to Glenflesk in round 1 of the non-county U14 Kerry players county league last Sunday.  Well done to the girls and mentors.  Final score KOR 1-7 to Glenflesk 0-8.  Next week we are away to Glenflesk in the county league where we can play our county player, Katie Nix, who played with the Kerry ladies U14s last Saturday.

We would like to welcome Aisling and Alva to our team.

U16 LADIES

Our 16s girls played their first game of the 2019 county league campaign against a Dingle / Annascaul combination in Pat Healy Park on last Wednesday evening.

Over the last few weeks they have worked very hard in training under the guidance of the coaches, along with Frank McLoughlin who when available focuses in on their physical fitness and conditioning and this really told this week as from the start they were flying.  The movement of backs, midfield and forwards at times was brilliant to see and saw us going into a 5-point lead in the first 10 minutes.  We then upped the pace again and with Kelly Fitzgerald super in goals, finding her target on every kick out, this was the launchpad for every attack.  We had scored 4 goals and 2 more points in the next 15 minutes to no score wth Keelin Coffey and Liana Williams on fire up front.  Our captain Katie Dwyer was really strong at the back and along with Maedhbh Hanafin, Alex Sheridan and Eugenie Kerins drove the ball out quickly through Éabha Murphy in midfield where she worked hard and provided great link up play with our forwards.  Both Ciara Madden and Kate Kerins were very solid in the half forwards and showed for every ball and once in possession moved it quickly, either kicking for a score or passing to a better-placed teammate.  Kate scored 3 points early in the game.  The real icing on the cake for us on the night was the performance of Liana Williams at full forward scoring 3 goals and 4 points and Keelin Coffey who scored 5 goals and a point which was brilliant to witness.  The movement, kicking, passing and running off the ball was superb and both were unstoppable up front.

As a team we have still plenty improvement in us.  All 20 girls played really well and we also have players to come back in, but it augurs really well for the coming season.  Our next game is against Fossa at 7pm next Thursday night in Pat Healy Park.

Training continues at 6.45pm in Ballyrickard on Tuesday evening.

MINOR LADIES

Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday in Ballyrickard.  No more Astroturf or Sunday morning training.

RECRUITMENT

We continue to recruit. For further information contact Shirley (086) 8713552. We look after our girls well here in Strand Road.  There was great excitement in the U10 team as news broke a few days ago that we will be one of two teams to represent Kerry on Monday, April 15th in The Croke Park Activity Day.  Not only are the girls excited but their parents and coaches are equally excited if not more!  It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, the dream of many a lady footballer come true!

Fundraising has started already to pay for gear etc. for the girls.  Please support them. Thank you!
