Senior Club Championship Rd 2.
Austin Stacks 1-13   Kerins O Rahillys 0-12
Our senior team made the short journey to Connolly Park on Sunday to face local rivals Austin Stacks .
The home side proved to be too strong for us on the day and ran out four point winners.
The game was nip and tuck right the way through , with little separating the teams until Austin Stacks were awarded a penalty with ten minutes remaining in the contest.
From here they added a few more scores to put some distance between the teams.

The men in blue started well going ahead early on from the boot of Jack Savage.
Stacks quickly replied to level matters. The first half was to finish with the home team leading by a single point(6-5). Both teams were finding it difficult to get any fluency in their play and this was reflected with the low scoring on what was a perfect afternoon for football.
The second half continued in the same manner with both side trading points. O’Rahillys then went into a two point lead with the impressive Tommy Walsh kicking a good score.
This left the score 10-08 at the water break.

When play resumed Austin Stacks upped their game and were to kick the next two points following a couple of poor turnovers from the blues.
The penalty followed shortly after and this put Stacks firmly in the driving seat.
The contest at times boiled over , with players from both side picking up cautions.
In the end Austin Stacks won the day and O’Rahillys left empty handed.

The over reliance on Jack Savage to be the main scoring threat will be a concern for management, with a point from Tommy Walsh being the only other scorer from a forward division that struggled to function all day.
Our final group game is a must win contest against fellow strugglers Legion.

U12 GIRLS
It’s been a hectic week for these young ladies with mixed results…don’t know where they’re getting the energy. We had 2 back games and a shield final. It’s been all go for them. Thanks also to your parents for their patience in chauffeuring you around the county.

STRAND ROAD BLUES
Congrats to these  ladies, a mighty young team, captained by Kelly Hayes who gave it their all and were out on their feet come the final whistle after an epic final in Ballyrickard last Wednesday in the Co. League, division 7 Shield final.

Finuge / St. Senans pushed our girls right to the very end in a hard fought  battle. To the delight of the home crowd we were victorious . Hard luck to Finuge/ St. Senans.

For each  match these girls play we see your skill levels and competitiveness improving. Each player is putting in a lot of effort at each training session and match which is great to see.
Well done to everyone!

Final Score:
Strand Road Blues 5-05
Finuge / St. Senans 2-06

KERINS O’ RAHILLY TEAM

Throw in was at 7.30p.m. and the girls were delighted to play under lights. It was a titanic battle but our girls couldn’t overcome a very strong effort from their challengers. It was a hugely exciting game. Congrats to Legion and the best of luck to you in your final.

Kerins O’ Rahilly 2-05
Great to see everyone developing so well while enjoying their football.

Dingle Game
A cracking game back West late on Sunday as our battling U12s dug deep to see off a strong Dingle challenge . This was a high quality encounter with both teams really going for it.
This was a top class team display against a very strong Dingle side. Alas it was not meant to be.
Well done to everyone!

MINORS

Kerins O’ Rahilly’s Minor ladies still smiling after their defeat in the Co. League semifinal replay v Fossa last Monday . Great bunch of young ladies.

Alas it was to be a disappointing end to an exciting journey for these young ladies.

Disappointment is not the right word to use as each and every one of you have given your  coaches, families and supporters great days out over the last few months. You have brought great joy and excitement in all the games you have played and gave us back a piece of normality that we had taken for granted.

Last Monday evening  was not to be your night as you faced Fossa in the semi final replay. Trojan work outfield by Lily O’ Brien . Katie Nix put up incredible mileage and travelled every inch of the Fossa pitch on the night. .

Katie scored a whopper of a goal from a free kick , it was just class…Sophie Hassett had a great game and as well as scoring herself set up many scores also. Both U16s brought with them great skill and bravery beyond their years.

We have talent in abundance arising from this group and look forward to seeing them play senior ladies in the years ahead. All in Strand Road  are immensely proud of each and every one of you girls and have no doubt a trophy is not too far out of your grasp. Well done all.
Final Score :
Fossa 5-12
Kerins O’ Rahilly 4-09
Best wishes to Fossa in the final.

LEAVING CERT
Well done to everyone. Remember if plan A didn’t work, the alphabet has 25 more letters!!

Juvenile Notes

First and foremost we were delighted to hear wonderful news earlier in the week of the birth of Dara Seán , son of our juvenile club secretary Claire Walsh and Seán Óg O’ Ciardubháin.

We are so delighted for you. Huge congrats also to Ber and Seán on the birth of your first grandchild, uncles Tommy, Barry John and Seánie and to Seán Óg’s family. Plenty of football from both Mom’s and Dad’s sides…

It was great to see so many of our young girls and boys in Healy Park, Ballyrickard last Sunday.
We are now into the “fall” of the year.  How quickly the days, weeks and months have passed.
School is back, routine is returning to our daily lives and there will be plenty more football to keep us busy.

‘Staycation’ was the big word in vogue this year, no long or short haul flights to foreign parts so many of us have come to re-appreciate the lovely countryside in which we live and the beautiful scenery around us.

The very same applies to football…. many of us have come to appreciate more the significance of being involved in team sports , not only for our girls and boys but for ourselves also. It’s a great social outlet for us parents too. Enjoy!
Sport  is the greatest leveller … it brings us all together from different walks of life and unites us…we are all equal and don’t ever forget that..

U5 BOYS
Plenty of happy faces last Sunday morning in Ballyrickard during training where the main focus is on each boy getting involved, touching the ball and having fun.

Our U8 girls always come to training with smiles on their faces and eager to learn from the skills and drills their coaches go through with them and last Sunday was no different. U15 BOYS
Our second central region game was at home Wednesday evening to Castlegregory. This was a very even contest though out but Castlegregory took an early lead and never let it go. Trailing by 5 points early on we got to grips around the middle of the field with Seamus Cahill winning a lot of ball. From there Jamie McCarthy fed great ball to the forward line and Nick Lacey and Tomàs Kennedy were a handful. Nick won some frees and Tomàs kept us ticking over on the score board. A first half goal from Tomàs kept us withing touching distance.

Second half was also evenly matched. Ruarì Kennedy was giving a kicking display at this stage from kick outs and we started building from the back. Again Tomàs was primary scorer from frees with two scored from very tight angles. Jamie add another score but we could not bridge the gap.

Overall this was an excellent performance from the boys with Brendán Meehan and Jake Hoare absent we got great performances from Cillian McGrath and Ciaràn Griffin from the under 13s with Ciaràn stopping 2 clear goal chances. Jude Lacey and Christian Dunne both under 12 made impacts off the bench.

The final score on the night was Kerins O’Rahillys 2-11 to Castlegregory 2-17. Well done to Castlegregory.

Scorers:
Tomás Kennedy 2-10
Jamie McCarthy 0-1

Man of the Match:
Tomás Kennedy
