Kerins O Rahillys 1-16

St Kieran’s  0-09

Our senior team had a comprehensive victory against St Kieran’s in Austin Stacks Park last Saturday evening to ensure our path to the quarter final stages this coming weekend.
Jack Savage opened the scoring with a free early on. Shortly after the divisional side had a great chance of a goal , but luckily struck the crossbar from close in.

Tommy Walsh from the very start was causing huge problems at the edge of the square, winning every ball that came his way and was the focal point of our attack.
The big full-forward finished the game with six points, three from play and three marks, and was unmarkable  throughout.
Conor Hayes ,who is beginning to find form, raced in for a neat point after he dispossessed a Kieran’s defender following a short kick out.

By the first half water break we were ahead 0-5 to 0-2 following a brilliant Tommy Walsh score from play just before the whistle.

St Kieran’s then kicked two in a row to narrow the gap to the minimum.

Strand Road then upped their game considerably, starting with a point from play by  Conor Hayes 24 minutes in. A further three scores from Jack Savage (two, one from play) and Walsh had it five point game coming up to half-time and, while a Paul Walsh free brought it back to four, to leave it  0-9 to 0-5 at half time.

A Tommy Walsh mark early in the second half settled us again , but  Kierans did reply with a point from play shortly after, but with David Moran now running the show from midfield, O’Rahilly’s were dominating most areas.

By the second water break it was out to a seven point game, double scores in favour of Strand Road – 0-14 to 0-7 – and shortly after it was out to nine following points by Savage (a free) and Hayes (assist sub Shane McElligott).

Shortly after goalkeeper Shane Foley , making his first senior championship start, pulled off an outstanding save to deny St Kieran’s a goal.

With time almost up came the only goal of the game, with David Moran picking out Jack Savage, who found himself in a two on-one situation along with Barry John Keane, with Savage finishing well to the bottom corner.

In the end,we ran out comfortable winners against a St Kieran’s side fancied by many.

In the process we handed Senior County Championship debuts to four players. Shane Foley, Donagh Buckley, Danial Bowler and Conor O’Sullivan, the latter the third generation of the O’Sullivan family to do so, proudly following in the footsteps of his grand father Denis O’Sullivan, and father Timmy, senior championship winner in ‘02.

The draw for the quarter final sees us come up against old rivals Dingle.

The men from the west will undoubtedly again carry the favourites tag, but I’m sure management will relish the challenge , and hopefully with the addition of a few recently  injured personnel , our hand will be strengthening and we can approach the fixture with a point to prove.

KERINS O’RAHILLYS: Shane Foley, Donagh Buckley, Ross O’Callaghan, Cormac Coffey, Darragh McElligott, Shane Brosnan, Cian Sayers, David Moran, Seán Walsh, Tom Hoare, Jack Savage (1,5, 3f), Gearóid Savage, Barry John Keane (0-1), Tommy Walsh (0-6, 3 marks), Conor Hayes (0-4) Subs: Diarmuid O’Sullivan for T Hoare, 40, Shane McElligott for G Savage, 52, Conor O’Sullivan for J Savage, 60, Daniel Bowler for S Walsh, 61

ACADAMH NA nÓG
Again, an unusual year …we in our Juvenile Club were conscious of the fact of not being able to have our annual  Halloween party so decided that this year we would have a Halloween competition similar to that in 2020.
All of our girls, boys and even parents if they wanted were invited to send us in their spooktacular Halloween creations. The effort put in was massive and woohoo everyone had class ideas! We had a bit of everything from scary to not so scary to very, very scary!! Spooktastic!!
It was brilliant that everyone could go trick ‘r treating and we can imagine the fun you all had!
We drew names of everyone who sent in a photo and the following girls and boys names were drawn:
Lauren O’ Connor, Brogan O’ Brien, Fionán O’ Brien, Hannah Healy, Fiadh Kissane, Róisín McCarthy, Ryan Healy, Alyssa Kislosky, Michael Hussey, Ryan Nix, Darcie O’ Flaherty, Anthony Lonergan , Róisín Murphy, Jude Raymond, Joey McCarthy , Aisling Donnelly, Shona Carroll, Samhain O’ Callaghan, Harry Dennehy, and Eleanor Daly.
Congrats to all  who sent in photos and we hope that you all had a great Oíche Shamhna before you headed back to school on the first day of what is officially winter.

CHRISTMAS
Yes, it’s in the door so we’re giving everyone plenty of notice as to what’s happening…
As we all know one of the highlights of the year for our girls, boys and families is our Christmas party, a few hours of organised chaos and lots of fun…
This year we won’t have a party but Daidí na Nollag as usual will be taking time out from his busy schedule to pay a special visit to our girls and boys in the Strand Road community who are just the best!!
Santa will be calling to us on the afternoon of SUNDAY, DECEMBER 12TH.Details will be sent out over the next few weeks but like 2020 each family will be given an allocated time so that we don’t have large crowds present all at once.
And of course each family may have their photo taken by our photographer on the day…always a great keepsake !
Should be a great day out , looking forward to seeing everyone!
