Grace Moran Memorial Walk:
12 months on from the sad and untimely passing of local woman Grace Moran, a huge crowd gathered in Strand Road to remember her in the inaugural Grace Moran Memorial Walk.

Despite the early morning rain, a bright and radiant rainbow signalled the start to the walk with young and old uniting in their support of the Moran family in remembering Grace and in turn raise funds for the chosen beneficiaries, namely Pieta House, Cuan Mhuire & MS Tralee – it was both poignant and sad but also heart warming to witness such a large gathering and given the turnout, it is hoped that this will be an annual event in our community.

Well done to everybody involved, the organisers, stewards and most especially to the Jimmy, Eileen, Tricia and Jade.

Seniors:
The county league division 1 final vs Dr Crokes  has now fixed for Sunday Dec 2nd in Lewis Road with a throw in time of 2 pm with  extra time playable if necessary.

We have been inactive since the county championship defeat to Dr Crokes in October save for the Coiste Trá Lí final vs Austin Stacks last weekend and will effectively come in cold against a side who will be ahead of us in terms of match and game fitness and who will no doubt be eager to finish their season in style on their home turf. Nevertheless its been 5 years since we last contested a league final and the lads will be anxious to finish with some silverware after a long season.

AGM:
The AGM of the club will take place on Sat 1st Dec commencing at 8 pm in the clubhouse; the AGM is the most important meeting of the year and every member is invited to attend.

The AGM will cover items such as the chairman’s and secretary’s reports, an outline of the financial position  of the club, election of officers and executive committee members. It also affords  members an opportunity  to air their views on club/ association policy and to endorse or revise club policies.

Nominations for any position can be made by Nov 15th to the secretary.

Church Gate Collection:
A sincere thanks to all who helped out over the weekend at all the masses – the weather was not the best on Sunday but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the collectors many of whom attended at more than one mass and location – mile buiochas.

Juvenile Academy:

The AGM of the juvenile club took place on Friday night last (9th Nov)  before a good attendance.

Chairman Adrian Doody and secretary Kathy McCarthy delivered comprehensive reports in what can be regarded as a successful season for the club.

The Donal Walsh Livelife tournament ( for U-14 boys) took place on the weekend of the May bank holiday when we ourselves were the inaugural winners. It is planned to make this an annual event and increase participation from 8 teams in 2018 to a minimum of 16 teams in 2019 – we would like to thank Fionbarr, Elma and Jemma for their support in making this tournament a reality.

The committee was returned en bloc for 2019 and is as follows:

Chairman: Adrian Doody

Secretary: Kathy McCarthy

PRO: Catriona Kennedy

Youth liaison: Paula O’Sullivan

County board delegate: Cathal Foley

The committee will also comprise of: Gerard Moran, Paul Ryan, Robert Pierce & Rowena Savage.

The coaches were treated to some light refreshments afterwards as a thank you for their dedication and commitment throughout the year.

Declan Quill and Trish Moran were honoured for their efforts and diligence in the past year and are the first recipients of the Grace Moran Awards kindly donated by the Moran family and presented on the night by Grace’s daughter, Jade. We would like to thank the Moran family for their initiative and support with this award.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Moran family on Sunday. A huge thanks to the volunteers, Mounthawk TY students, Mike and John in Charlie’s Bar & Bistro and especially to the family. All money raised is going to Pieta House, Cuan Mhuire and MS Tralee District.

AWARDS NIGHT AND RECRUITMENT
Our awards night will be on Sunday, December 9th – more details to follow.
The girls have a break for a few weeks but indoor training commences in early January. Our coaches are busy planning for 2019 at present.
If you are not affiliated to another club why not come join us in January. Our players are well looked after and make friends for life here. For more details contact Shirley (086) 8713552. All welcome in Kerins O’Rahilly’s Club!

Lotto:

There was no winner of last week’s lotto jackpot where the winning numbers drawn were: 4, 16, 22 & 31 – nobody matched 3.

The five entrants for the special December draw are as follows: Terry O’Brien, Danny Leane, Mike Griffin, Norman Foley and Ronan Savage.

Tickets €2/3 for €5 can be purchased from the clubhouse, online  or any of the following outlets: Counihans Princes St., Foleys Spar Castlmaine Road, Jimmys on Strand Road and the Abbey Inn.

On Monday night last chairman Haulie Kerins marked a very special occasion in the clubhouse with a presentation of a bouquet of flowers to Mary O’Brien who celebrated her 90th birthday recently.

Mary is one of our top contributors when it comes to selling our lotto tickets and without whom the weekly sales would be far more modest than they are – we are truly grateful to the huge effort she puts in weekly and wish her many more years of health and happiness.
