Senior County League Division 1 Round 2 Kerins O’Rahillys 1-20 St Michael’s/Foilmore 0-04

St. Michael’s/Foilmore were the visitors to Strand Road on Saturday evening for the second round of the County League Division 1. The loss of our three Kerry players ensured starts for Greg O’ Connell, John O’Connor and Declan Quill whilst our defence was retained en bloc having conceded only 8 points in the previous game to Finuge.

We starting hesitantly, with some wayward passing and after 15 minutes led 6 points to 3 with Declan Quill having scored 3 of those points despite us having squandered 2 goal chances. However from there to the half time whistle we piled on the pressure scoring 6 unanswered points, compliments of Declan 2, John O’ Connor 2, David McLoughlin and Jack Savage contributing 1 each to leave the half time score in our favour 11 points to 3 points.

Our dominance stemmed from mid field where Kevin Walsh was outstanding and our half back line of Cormac Coffey, Martin Tierney and Gavin Duffy not yielding an inch. On the resumption and facing a stiff breeze we again took the game to our opponents and quickly added another 3 points via Declan, Cormac and Kieran O’ Mahony.

St.Michael’s/Foilmore simply had no answer and from there to the finish we dominated possession kicking some great scores with substitute Cian Sayers finding the net after some great forward inter play. We could afford the luxury of introducing 6 substitutes whilst only conceding one point from play in the second half to leave a final score of Kerins O’Rahillys 1-20 St. Michael’s/Foilmore 0-4.

This was an all round great performance founded on a strong defence, hard working mid field and 6 forwards who always looked for a better placed colleague if a score was on. We take a break from the Count League for the moment with our next match being the Tralee Senior Lee Strand Town League Final versus Austin Stacks which is fixed for Easter Saturday night at 6.30pm in Austin Stack Park.
