Division 1 County League Round 3
Spa 1-10 Kerins O Rahillys 0-12

The senior side travelled to Spa Killarney on Saturday evening for round 3 of the county league. Again short a number of regulars , but we welcomed back David Moran after a long term injury.
The team raced into an early lead with Conor Hayes kicking three scores inside the first five minutes, with Gavin O Brien operating at the edge of the square winning early possession and assisting in all.
The home team then got off the mark with a point of their own.
Spa then struck for what would be the key score of the game , when they crashed a ball to the net from a rebound from a Shane Foley save.

We soon responded with a close in free from Conor Hayes following a foul on O’Brien.
During this period the hosts were winning the lions share of primary possession around the middle and were causing us bother with their running game.
We did manage to break upfield in the fifteenth minute with Gearoid Savage chipping over a point from close range following a move involving Cormac Coffey , David Moran and Gavin O Brien who slipped neatly to Savage to convert.
Spa tagged on a number of points , until Cormac Coffey burst upfield and kicked a fine score from forty metres to leave us trailing 1-06 to -07.
Gearoid Savage then converted a free resulting from a foul on Gavin O Brien who had made a fine run through the centre of the Spa defence, to leave the minimum between the sides.
Spa then stretched their lead again , but another fine score from our captain Cormac Coffey left just a point in it at the break . A half where we could have scored more were it not for some poor execution of the final pass.Half time score 1-7 to -09
The second half opened with the home team kicking the first two scores.
Ten minutes in we got our first score of the half with a point from Gavin O Brien, kicking from thirty five yards out on the left.
Despite the precautionary exit of David Moran, we enjoyed an abundance of possession , however we were very wasteful in possession and a combination of some poor shot selection, shots dropped short and missed frees would ultimately be our undoing.
Both teams struggled to score for long periods of the second half and each side only managed three points apiece in the second period .

Our final score again came from the boot of Cormac Coffey , and even though there was in excess of five minutes additional time played , we just could not engineer the equaliser.
Again , as in recent weeks we gave valuable game time to a number of fringe player, with Stephen Nix in defence impressing, as did Ben Hanafan, Danial Bowler and Danny Hennessey when introduced.

Cormac Coffey was impressive , coming up with some vital scores.Con Barrett was commanding at centre back. In the second half Tom Hoare won a lot of ball around the middle.

Up front Conor Hayes had an excellent first half, and would have fared better in the second half had he stayed closer to goals .
Gavin O Brien was instrumental in a number of scores and caused all sorts of bother to the home defence with his driving runs .
Team:S Foley, S Nix,S Brosnan, P Neenan,,J Daly, C Barrett, C Coffey(3)D Moran,T Hoare, G Savage (3,2f),S McElligott,B Hanafan,C Hayes (5,1f),G O Brien(1)D Bowler.

U12 GIRLS
Every player  had the opportunity to make  an impact in their games as always in the North Kerry League. Thank you to everyone who has come to support the girls.
We have been informed that there’s a special delivery on Easter Saturday morning in Ballyrickard so hoping that all of our U12 panel will be available to help out with it !!!

STRAND ROAD BLUES
A young team…. It was a hard game for us, 80 per cent of which was played in our defence. Ruby Foley was superb in goals. Her  bravery, tenacity and game management were exemplary. Muireaann McCarthy is getting more confident with each game. Rachael Ahern is listening to her coaches during training and this shows during games. Sarah McGrath had a good game too. Whenever the chance arose, she carried the ball, passing and receiving and scored .Our defence had a hard night but  they never gave up. Watch out when Jessie Griffin gets on the ball because there’s no stopping her as was with Ellie Marie Hobbert. Yvie  Ross had some game also as did everyone on the panel
These young ladies may have come out second best in their game v John Mitchels last Wednesday evening in scores but not in determination. What a game…the score was no reflection on the great work and effort by each player on the pitch on a bitter cold evening. Well done! Everyone is coming on so much with each game. You’re a credit to our club and your families!
In Rd. 3 we host Brosna / Knocknagoshel in Ballyrickard next Wednesday, April 13th. Throw in will be at 7p.m. Please come out and support.

KERINS O’ RAHILLY TEAM
Well done to this bunch who played some brilliant football last Wednesday in Rd. 2 of the North Kerry League v Churchill in the Spa pitch.
We asked them to do a few things:
*Try their best
* Remember their skill work from training
* Have fun and enjoy their game representing our club.
They absolutely emptied themselves, were without doubt the best ( totally unbiased opinion of course), were a joy to watch and took some great scores.
Unfortunately, in the finish we lost out to sucker punch points that made a slight difference.
We have a bye in the next round so hoping that everyone will come out to support our Strand Road Blues next Wednesday.

U14 GIRLS
Another super training session last Thursday evening. Great to see such numbers and our wonderful young ladies improving their skills each week. We were delighted to meet Caoilainn.
Last Saturday evening we were away to  an extremely strong Listowel Emmets in Frank Sheehy Park. The conditions were ideal for football . They displayed great skills and it was a  great team performance.
This week we host Beaufort, our manager Mark will keep you posted

U16 GIRLS
On Tuesday 5th April our U16 Team continued their County League season in Templenoe, the girls making the long journey south to face a strong ISG team. The girls won the toss and opted to play with the strong wind in the first
half. ISG applied sustained pressure in the opening minutes of the half, resulting in some early scores for the home side. The girls steadily grew into the game and began to get to grips with the ISG attack.
The girls opened the Strand Road account with a brilliant goal from Sadhbh Horgan. A long floating ball from Sophie Hassett finding Sadhbh on the edge of the square, with Sadhbh duly obliging with a fantastic goal. Kelly Fitzgerald added to the Strand Road account after fantastic pressure and a great turnover. Aoibhín O’Connor MacCarthy  narrowed the deficit further with an outstanding free from near the sideline.
ISG with a half time lead of 3-3 to 1-2.
With the conditions deteriorating, the girls faced a massive test in the 2nd half against a strong wind and sustained pressure from ISG. The Strand Road girls faced the challenge brilliantly with a massive team effort and exceptional work rate.
The defence had tightened up considerably with massive pressure being exerted on ISG.
The work rate and support for each other was fantastic to see and bodes well for the months ahead.
Sophie Hassett opened the Strand Road account in the 2nd half with a great point after a brilliant run by Aoibhín O’Connor MacCarthy.
Sophie was again on the score sheet a short time later with a fantastic goal after a brilliant pass by Ella O’Connor.
The final score of the game again fell to Sophie with a long range point finished superbly.

Final Score : ISG 5-10,  Kerins O’Rahillys 2-4. Congratulations to ISG on a deserved win.

Team : Millie Hayes, Alva Daughton, Lauren Doody, Leila Halloran , Saoirse O’Connor MacCarthy , Ava Ward, Farah Leahy, Aoibhín O’Connor MacCarthy (0-1),
