St Brendan’s & Tralee District League Semi Final

Kerins O Rahillys 1-14

Austin Stacks 0-14

In what was a spirited encounter played in a fine evening in Strand Road , the home team ran out winners in the end.
With both teams short a number of regulars the blues raced into an early lead, one which they would never lose. The half time score was KOR 1-04 to Austin Stacks 0-04, the goal coming from Barry John Keane who finished following his penalty being saved.
The second half saw us continue , with scores from Conor Hayes and the influential Gavin O Brien who kicked three in a row from play mid way through the half.
The visitors kept in touch with a number of converted frees.
In the end we ran out deserved winners and look forward to what will be a tough challenge from Dr Crokes next Sunday.

Gaelic4Girls Easter treats in Kerins O’ Rahilly last Saturday for Alison Hoffman, Rachael Ahern , Abby Gallagher and Arabella Tuohy

NÓTAÍ NA mBAN
A quieter week than normal at this time of year on the ladies side! It is the Easter hols and it’s just the way our fixtures fell…

The evenings are getting longer, the weather improving so no excuse for everyone to practice their skills at home especially as you have no homework during the Easter.

Interested in giving football a go …  Playing Gaelic football is a great opportunity for girls to learn the importance of hard work, cooperation and commitment as well as keeping them active, fit and healthy both mentally and physically!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and enjoy the rest of the break girls!

GAELIC4GIRLS
The basics of Gaelic football through FUN Skill Games in a circuit style set up…
Last Saturday the girls went over what they did for the past few weeks. We were blessed with the weather and some of us went home with a little wind burn . For the weekend that was in it Mary treated the girls to an Easter egg each and we also had very tasty cupcakes for everyone.
Looking forward to seeing you next week!

U12 GIRLS
A great turnout on Easter Saturday morning for training by the most fantastic team you could ever meet… always putting a smile on our faces every week. It being Easter what better way to celebrate but with a little treat for everyone.. nope not chocolate but a beautifully decorated Easter  cupcake each from Theresa Everett of Heavenly Baked… scrumptious!!

Players learn a lot from the ups and downs of sports . There are many opportunities for players to develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills. These are always of great benefit for them as they progress and get older.

There will be a big surprise for the team in a few weeks time … everyone will be delighted on their arrival!!!

Always smiling are these wonderful young ladies…U12 Strand Road Blues team

STRAND ROAD BLUES
Knocknagoshel / Brosna  prove far too strong in Rd. 3 North Kerry league encounter!

Our Strand Road Blues had their third outing of the season last Wednesday evening in Ballyrickard . It was a glorious evening for a game with ideal conditions.
Knock / Brosna scoring heavily throughout the game went on to record a comfortable victory as they have with every team they have played so far. Despite a spirited second half there was no coming back…

From our perspective, it was great to see all of our young ladies giving it their all and hanging in there. Another positive was that the girls had as always a wonderful attitude and did us proud.

Emily Corridon in goals in the second half had some fine kick outs. Ruby Foley and Saoirse McCarthy  as always were great in defence. Athletic Ellie Marie Hobbert clung onto her marker and had great skills on display as had  Ava O’ Donoghue and Hannah O’ Sullivan .

Rachael Ahern worked extremely hard and did well marking a very fast corner forward…Holly Pierce caught some good ball from kick outs, Nicola was busy in the forward line and Chloe and Meabh getting on the scoresheet. Sarah McGrath was outstanding at the back with a superb block before half time…one of the highlights of her performance!

Even though this game was no contest from start to finish we had some beautiful smiles after 50 minutes of play. Well done to everyone and to our captain on the night Emily Corridon.

Next Wednesday, we have a bye and are away to Currow in the final round

KERINS O’ RAHILLY
We had a bye in Rd. 3 . Next week we host Ballymacelligott in Healy Park, Ballyrickard. Throw in will be at 6.30p.m.
Best of luck to everyone!

Many thanks to Darren Horan, Stoves 4U who kindly sponsored Kerins O’ Rahilly’s U14s with this gorgeous set of jerseys

U14 GIRLS
Kerins O’ Rahilly U14s played their fifth league match of the Campaign on Easter Saturday in Healy Park against Beaufort.

We had some outstanding saves from our goalkeeper Molly Casey and our back line of Erika Slattery , Caragh Houlihan, Katie Higgins, Mia Molloy, putting in huge blocks and tackles with Farah Leahy  leading  the charge. Left half back Greta Ziauberyre had a great game.

Our patient wing forwards Ava O’ Connor and Fiadh McCarthy covered some ground and played many roles in their positions…the defensive work of a wing back , the attacking work of midfielders and corner forwards. Aoibhne Daly who came on for Taylor Stack during the second half got stuck in straight away.

Taylor Stack , Córa Meehan and Ava O’ Shea worked tirelessly around the middle and were outstanding too linking up well the play. Grace Kirby, Megan Gaynor and Anna Corridon  did themselves proud working hard in the forward line . The girls showed great character putting in a huge performance. We have had tough days at this stage in the non Co. Player Co. League but playing to the best of their ability is all we can ask for and by God do the girls try their utmost in division 2. A share of the girls had other sports  later in the day  such is the heavy schedule for dual players. Huge dedication , commitment and respect for the girls. Well done to everyone!

SPONSORSHIP
A very exciting announcement before the game for the U14 girls… a fabulous set of new jerseys. A huge thank you to Darren Horan, STOVES 4U  for his  support and kindly sponsoring. We’re looking forward to formally launching the new jerseys shortly. It’s great to have the support of the local community. Thanks again Darren.
As we embark on a new chapter in the club’s history where we have ladies teams all the way up to seniors we must thank our sponsors for lending their support!

COMMUNITY GAMES

Those of us who are old enough to remember have great memories of the community  games back in the 70s and 80s… always a great day out where families and neighbours in the community would come together for a celebration with sporting activities in Strand Road pitch.

Not only did the children participate but there were also activities for  the Moms and Dads….still remember watching the tug of war and the parents’ races… simple times but great!

After a quiet two years they are making a full comeback . We’re sure the children of our community will be delighted to hear this .

They are done differently nowadays and it depends on which side of the street you live on determines whether you’re with Spa Road / Caherslee / Rock Street or if you’re with Blennerville / Ballyard areas.
The art and handwriting competition is up first for the Spa Road/ Caherslee / Rock Street areas.

Juvenile Academy
We hope you all had a lovely Easter and the Easter bunny called to everyone. Well done to everyone who came to training last Sunday despite the temptation of staying home to tuck into their Easter eggs.

The coaches were ready to go when they arrived and everyone enjoyed an hour of training filled with fun and laughter that could be heard throughout the various age groups.

The coaches are encouraging the children to practice at home as much as they can wether it’s their solo, hand passing or kicking skills, even if it’s for 5-10 minutes each evening it all adds up.

Thanks to Nathan from Ballyseedy Gardens for supplying the treats after training finished. As always we look forward to seeing you all again next Sunday at 10am in Pat Healy Park Ballyrickard. New members always welcome, so bring a friend and introduce them to the wonderful game of football.

Thanks to everyone who has registered through Clubzap. All communications will be through Clubzap and we encourage anyone who hasn’t already downloaded the app to do so. If you have any queries please contact us on 086 3741301 or email: info@kerinsorahillys.com.

U13 Boys
Our u13 boys were away to Rathmore last Sunday and came away with a well deserved win in the County league.  Playing with a strong wind they started well with a well worked team goal finished by Jude Lacey. Rathmore answered with some good points to level the score heading into the second quarter. We started the second quarter with our backs to the wall but managed to hold Rathmore to a single point in this period. The backs were led well by Dylan Walsh, George Keane and Conan Sieno.

They kept the pressure on our hosts when we attacked and again created an excellent team goal involving Cian Fitzgerald, Christian Dunne and finished by Sam Keane. This was followed by a well taken long range free from Jude Lacey. We lead by 2 points at half time but had a strong wind to contend with in the second half.

Rathmore finished off a well worked goal to take a brief lead in the second half but from the kick out we managed to transfer the ball to Cian Fitzgerald who once again finished to the net.

We then put together some excellent play working the ball up the field several times and kicked 2 more points through Jude Lacey and Barry O’Sullivan.

The tireless pair of Kevin Horgan and Thomas Daly turned over the ball early in the final quarter and fed Jude Lacey who scored a further goal to put us 4 points up. Rathmore staged a late comeback and scored two quick goals to leave us trailing by 2 but once again our boys dug deep to set up our 5th goal through Christian Dunne, to give us the smallest of leads heading into injury time.

Our defence held firm in the final minutes to hold out our hosts and we came away with a deserved 5.4 to 4.6 victory. Well done to everyone.
