NÓTAÍ NA mBAN

Kerins O’ Rahilly’s ladies are delighted to announce that we are one of 26 clubs to have been chosen to participate in ‘Lidl Ireland’s One Good Club’ mental health awareness programme for 2022.

This is a five step, youth mental health awareness programme, developed in partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association ( LGFA), Jigsaw and the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.

The aim of this programme is to increase awareness and knowledge of mental health across the LGFA community for all ages. The initiative offers each club the opportunity to support all members and engage in activities that can promote their health and well-being.

We are so looking forward to meeting our community more !

“During the darkest times we are stronger together.”

Overwhelmed Saoirse Somers who celebrated her birthday last Saturday with her Gaelic4Girls friends after training in Ballyrickard

GAELIC4GIRLS

A fantastic sunny morning in Ballyrickard for our Gaelic4girls FUN session last Saturday… the girls got a little giddy when they saw their new footballs… colourful monsters!

Plenty of laughter, chatting, fun and making friends! This is what it’s all about, enjoyment!

To finish off our morning everyone sang happy birthday to an overwhelmed Caoimhe Somers who celebrated her 12th birthday on the day and of course we all enjoyed a slice of cake when Caoimhe had blown out the candles.

Gaelic4Girls just wanna have fun… Abby Gallagher, Lauren McCarthy, Arabella Tuohy, Eva O’ Shea, Caoimhe Somers, Mia McMahon and Abbey O’ Connor

U12 GIRLS

Big day last Wednesday  for both teams … . We finished  out the North Kerry League with a Shield final in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard v rivals Austin Stacks and our Strand Road Blues with a plate final over in John Mitchels.

The girls have been fantastic all during this competition giving it their all! Well done girls!

The first silverware of 2022 for Kerins O’ Rahilly and hopefully more of it to come throughout our club…

On Wednesday, May 11th the Co. League commences for this age group.

Kerins O’ Rahilly’s U12s who defeated Austin Stacks in the North Kerry League, division 2 shield final. Congrats to all !

KERINS O’ RAHILLY TEAM

We started off well and got some early scores to settle any nerves there might have been.

The girls kept the scoreboard ticking over and took their chances when they came.

The defence stood firm and kept the Austin Stacks ladies at bay, holding them with a score line  of 5-03 to 0-02 at half time. Our fantastic captains on the night were Taylor Kate Leane and Lexi Keane.

Austin Stacks  fought hard throughout the second half and kept going until the final whistle … final score

KOR 5-07

Austin Stacks 3-08

Well done to our girls and thanks to Austin Stacks for a fantastic game!

Next Wednesday, we make the long journey back to Kenmare for Rd. 1 of the Co. League, division 2 .

Strand Road Blues bubbly U12s who played John Mitchels in the North Kerry Plate final

STRAND ROAD BLUES

Well done to all the girls last Wednesday evening captained by Nicola Corridon who played a stronger John Mitchels team in the plate final of the North Kerry League…

To the older girls, you lead the team brilliantly, to all our debutants, some playing their first under 12’s final, others playing their first ever competitive final, you were all all fantastic!

Ruby Foley , one of our backs agreed to go in goals as we had no goalie on the night. We missed Ruby on the back line so after a while decided that we would move Ruby back into her position and Sarah McGrath went into goals for us as did Meabh after her.

Muireann McCarthy caught some lovely ball when she could during the game, Ruby had some fine kick outs from the goal mouth and when back in her position again was terrific in defence. U10 players, skillful Ava O’ Donoghue, Hannah O’ Sullivan and Ellie Marie Hobbert put in a great performance as always.

Sarah McGrath and U10 Katelynn O’ Brien were like whizz kids up and down the pitch . Athletic Yvie  Ross is improving at her skills in every game .

Full of fun and laughter always is Rachael Ahern who takes everything in her stride. Forward Holly Pierce always has a warm smile along with corner forward Caoimhe Somers .

Emily Corridon, sister of our captain on the night had a great game also.

Congrats to John Mitchels on their win!

We may not have brought home the silverware but to see the smiling faces by the girls shows us that it’s not all about winning but about the girls themselves playing football and enjoying it. In our eyes all 30 players on our U12 panel were winners!

In round 1 of the Co. League , division 5 we meet Beale and have home advantage next Wednesday . Looking forward to seeing plenty of support again!

U14 GIRLS
NON CO. PLAYER CO. LEAGUE
On a splendid evening for football our U14s took to  the field for their final non county player co. league game of the campaign against nearby neighbours Na Gaeil last Sunday.

Na Gaeil won all of the key battles and this showed  on the scoreboard.

Our ladies tried their  best throughout the game but found it difficult to break through Na Gaeil’s defence!

Overall a great team performance from our ladies and congrats to Na Gaeil on your win.

Final score.
Na Gaeil 4-07
Kerins O’ Rahilly 1-05

U16 GIRLS
After a break of 3 weeks our U16 Team continued their County League season on Tuesday May 3rd in Fossa.
The conditions were ideal, with both teams contributing to a great game.

The Strand Road girls began the 1st half with an early goal, Aoibhín O’Connor MacCarthy  going highest for the kickout and collecting brilliantly. Aoibhín found Kelly Fitzgerald with a great pass, with Kelly finishing to the net in style.

Fossa began to exert a strong running game and got some scores on the board, Fossa adding 1-3 without reply to leave the score line at 1-3 to 1-0 mid-way through the half.

With Strand Road backs to the wall, the girls rallied brilliantly, Farah Leahy and Leila Halloran working hard in defence with Rachel Foley dominating in the full back line.

Alva Daughton with a turnover found Kelly Fitzgerald, Kelly with a brilliant pass finding Sadhbh Horgan on the 14 yard line, Sadhbh finishing with an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net.

Again Fossa responded in kind, adding 1-4 without reply, to leave the score line at 3-4 to 2-0 late in the first half, the Strand Road girls with everything to do to get back in the game. As always the girls did not disappoint, working hard, supporting each other, defending brilliantly and transitioning at pace.

Sophie Hassett found Ciara Gallagher on the forty with Ciara offloading to Taylor Stack. Taylor carried brilliantly and finished with a wonderful point. Kelly Fitzgerald was again to the fore winning hard ball and distributing brilliantly.
Kelly, Taylor Stack and Sophie Hassett combined with Sophie adding a point.

Aoibhín O’Connor MacCarthy  added to the Strand Road account after great work by Ava Ward. A score line of 3-5 to 2-3 with only minutes remaining in the half. Sophie Hassett secured a great turnover and offloaded to Aoibhín .Aoibhín carried at the heart of the Fossa defence before finding Taylor Stack.

Taylor finished to the net in style, reducing the deficit to 2 points entering the final moments of the half. The final score of the half again fell to Taylor, a wonderful point under pressure.

Taylor having a brilliant game and exerting a massive influence on the scoreboard. A wonderful half of football with only the minimum separating the sides at half time.

The 2nd half began well for the Strand Road girls. Aoibhín  adding the opening point of the half after great work by Sophie Hassett.

Aoibhín was again to the fore shortly after, finding Sara Reka, with Sara adding a great point. Aoibhín turned from provider to scorer, finishing a great move with a long range
effort.

Sophie Hassett added to the Strand Road account after great work by Sarah Jane Hoffman. Strand Road with a 2 point lead mid-way through the 2nd half.
The game ebbed and flowed from there to the finish, Strand Road defended brilliantly with everyone contributing to the effort.

Mille Hayes brought off a wonderful save much to the delight of the Strand Road faithful.

Strand Road added to their account to move into a 3 point lead, Taylor, Sophie and Kelly combining, with Kelly finishing with a handpassed point.
Sophie Hassett added the final 3 points of the game after brilliant team work and massive work rate from the girls. Fossa adding a late goal to leave the sides all square at the final whistle.

Well done to both teams on a great game of football.
