Seniors: A vital two county league points were garnered against relegation bound Castleisland Desmonds on Sat night on a final score line of 3-14 to 0-13.

Both sides were understrength but this offered those on the periphery an opportunity to put up their hands for a starting place in the future and there were many who provided the management with food for thought with their displays.

Foremost for the home side was Ryan Carroll ( Chuckie) operating from midfield,  and in addition to his four points on the night, he produced a fine all round performance which was crucial to our win.

We began in whirlwind fashion and had the ball in the net inside 20 seconds when Daniel Nix was on the end of a Rory Molloy pass to finish past goalkeeper Ciaran Breen for a capital goal.

We maintained our grip on proceedings for the remainder of the half despite facing the breeze and were two points to the good at half time, 07 to 0-08. Our points were well spread with Tom Hoare & Rory Molloy pilfering two apiece with Karl Mullins, Padraig Griffin & Chuckie adding to our tally.

On the resumption, Chuckie added another before Padraig Griffin combined beautifully with Karl Mullins which resulted in the latter firing low to his right to put us 5 ahead; from here to finish we maintained a steely grip on proceedings to emerge worthy winners by 10 points.

Team: Garry Kissane, Danny O’Sullivan, Ross O’Callaghan, Andrew Thompson, Jason O’Leary, Karl Mullins ( 1-02), Darragh McElligott ( 0-01), Ryan Carroll ( 0-04), Cian Sayers ( inj 20m ), Gary Nolan, Padraig Griffin ( 0-01), Rory Molloy ( 0-04), Daniel Nix ( 1-0), Tom Hoare ( 0-03), John Keane. Subs: Donagh O’Brien ( 1-0), John Dillane, Shane Flavin, Kieran Mangan, Kieran O’Connor.

County League – Rd 9: We travel to Gallarus next Sunday 23rd July to play An Ghaeltacht in senior county league – this is a tough assignment as the westerners are flying high in Division 1 and are currently joint second in the table with Rathmore.

Minors: West Kerry proved far too strong for our lads on Tuesday night last in Lispole losing out on a final score line of 3-23 to 3-03 in the county minor championship.

West Kerry were quickest out of the blocks and with the aid of a stiff breeze quickly racked up the scores – it was one way traffic as we found it difficult to get our hands on the ball and when we did break through the westerners defence was rock solid.

As a contest the game was over at half time but we battled well in the second half with goals from Gearoid Dillane and Aaron Roche. This was a tough lesson for the team but each gave their all on the night but just came up against a physically stronger more experienced side.

Strand Rd.: Our fixture vs St Pats was cancelled as St Pats conceded a walk over in the Coiste Tra Lí league match scheduled for last week.

We have one outstanding league game to play in the county league ( away to Dingle) and this will be played in the coming weeks.

Due to the withdrawal of Gneeveguilla from the competition, the top three will qualify for the finals with a draw to determine who advances to the final and the remaining two teams playing a semi final  – as we currently lead the table we should be in the final shake up.

Junior Blues:

U-14 Boys: We were beaten in the fourth game of the Central League last week when Milltown/Castlemaine were victorious in an enjoyable game played in Strand Rd. We led by 3 points at the interval, 4-03 to 2-6 with Daragh O’Connor providing 3-01 of this with other scores from Ben O’Brien ( 1-0), Danny Hennessy and Jack Savage ( 0-1) each.

On the resumption we fired over another 3 points and seemed to be on our way – however, a physically stronger Milltown side powered back and eventually won on a final scoreline of 5-13 to 5-07. Our final game in this competition takes place this Monday night ( 17th) when An Ghaeltacht are the visitors to Strand Rd, throw in @ 19.00
