Seniors:
County intermediate semi finalists Templenoe proved too strong in the league finale winning out on a final score line of 2-14 to 2-12.
Whilst both sides had already secured their division 1 status for 2018 this was an important game with the upcoming county championships in mind.
We welcomed back David Moran and Barry John Keane from Kerry duty and also saw the return of Cormac Coffey from the US but the absence of Ross O’Callaghan, Jack Savage and Gavin O’Brien was a blow along with the injured Cian Sayers.
We fell behind early in the game to some good scores from Templenoe and trailed by 3 points to one after 5 minutes; we were finding it difficult to counteract their sweeper system with Kerry senior Tadhg Morley sitting in front of his full back line but we did put together some good moves which resulted in us taking the lead on the 12th minute ( 0-04 to 0-03) following scores from Rory Molloy, Barry John & Tom Hoare ( 2) his second a fine effort from a “45”.
Indeed both sides could count themselves unlucky not to have raised green flags when Templenoe first hit the butt of the upright and then Gary Kissane pulling off a fine save to deny them; at the other end, Tommy, David & Barry John were all unlucky not to have raised a major.
It was nip and tuck to the half time whistle and when referee Cathal O’Dubhda signalled the end of the first half, we were in the ascendancy, 0-07 to 0-06 – our other scorers in this half were Barry John with two points, his lead point in the 27th minute being a fine score following good work by John Ferguson, and Tommy with a fine left footed effort.
Immediately on the restart, Tommy broke away and increased the lead to 0-08 to 0-06; our defence was breached for the first time shortly afterwards when a kick out went astray and corner forward Brian Crowley found the net to leave the southerners ahead by one.
David was now imposing himself at midfield and kicked two fine points from play to put us back in front again but his withdrawal shortly afterwards was a big blow with Adrian Spillane now taking up the gauntlet at midfield to ensure a steady supply of ball to his inside colleagues.
We trailed 1-13 to 0-12 entering the home straight and when wing back Dan Cahalane found the net it looked to be all over; however, we again took the fight to the opposition and goals from Gazza Savage and Barry John had the game in the melting pot with time running out – it was too little, too late and the referee blew for full time shortly afterwards.
In summary this was a good workout for the side who had not played together since 21st May when we beat Dingle in the championship and the next 3 weeks will see the side gearing up for the clash with East Kerry on 23rd Sept.
Our next game will take place next Sat when we play Austin Stacks in the semi final of the Coiste Trá Lí town championship at a venue and time to be fixed later in the week.

Charlie Kerins: Our quarter final fixture vs Skellig Rangers fixed for Sat next 9th Sept will NOT now go ahead due to Skellig Rangers continued involvement in the county junior championship – the tie has been deferred to a later date.
Minors: We played Na Gaeil at home on Monday night last ( 28th Aug) in Central Region round 5 where a win would guarantee us a semi final spot. This was a ding dong affair from the word go with very little between the sides.
At half time we led by a point, 1-06 to 0-08 and quickly forged four ahead on the resumption; however we were soon pegged back and Na Gaeil tacked on the points to eventually lead by 2 points entering the final minutes – a great move resulted in Gearoid Dillane finding the net to leave us the winners by the minimum, 5-09 to 1-20.
As stated, this then gave us a semi final berth on Friday night last when we had to travel west to Dingle to take on the locals for a place in the final.
The game against Dingle saw us take the game to them early on and with Conor Hayes in great form, we led at the break 0-07 to 0-02.
Dingle staged a comeback in the second half and the sides were level at 1-08 each ( Conor Hayes with the goal) midway through the half; then a scoring burst saw us increase our lead to 3 points, 1-13 to 1-10 with some great scores from Gearoid Dillane and Cillian Gallagher – we saw out the game to qualify for the final on a score line of 1-14 to 1-11.
Special mention to Seán Collins and Rory O’Connor in defence and to Shane McElligott up front in addition to those already mentioned. We await the winners of the Laune Rangers/Austin Stacks tie ( to be played Monday 4th) in the final.
Junior Blues:
The U-13 boys took on Ardfert in the Coiste Trá Lí league on Thursday night last in Strand Road which resulted in a draw, 5-14 each.
This was a cracking game from the very off with both sides trading scores at will and the lead changing hands from one minute to the other. In a high scoring first half, the sides were level on no fewer than five occasions with the half time score @ 1-10 for Rahillys, Ardfert 3-04.
The second half continued in the same vein, some great scores followed by some great saves, near misses and the occasional wide; at one stage we led by 4-10 to 3-08 only to concede two goals in the next few minutes to leave us trailing by one – the final minutes were hectic as we tried to defend our lead but Ardfert ( recent winners of the Rose Cup) were not to be denied and kicked the equaliser from a close range free almost on the stroke of full time.
Great credit is due to both sides for serving up such an entertaining game and should we meet again in the latter stages of the competition, its a game not to be missed. There were many outstanding performers on both sides but the 3 goals from the boot of midfielder Seán Healy deserve special mention along with his overall work rate.
On Sunday, we played Ballymac in the Coiste Trá Lí U-14 boys division 2 final in Caherlsee; here we came up against a physically bigger team who had played their county league games in Division 1, whilst we plyed our trade in division 4.
Though we competed in the first half, being only two points in arrears @ half time ( 2-07 to 3-02), our challenge faded in the second half and Ballymac ran out deserving winners on a final score line of 3-15 to 3-04. Well done to the team on their performance, it was just not our day.
Lotto:
There was no winner of this week’s lotto draw where the winning numbers drawn were: 8, 9, 12 & 20. Six players matched 3 numbers and they are as follows: Martin Nix, Denis O’Sullivan, Mary McCarthy, Kelly O’Sullivan, Patricia Flynn & Trisha Moran – each wins €25.
