Senior Football
Garvey’s Supervalu Senior Co Championship Kerins O’Rahillys 2-05 Rathmore 2-08. A last minute goal by Rathmore when the game was finely balanced was enough to give them a win in this tough Co. Championship game played last Saturday evening in wet conditions. It was Rathmore who had the dream start and were up 1-02 to no score after 4 minutes.

But the team responded well and points by David Moran and Barry John Keane and a great run by John Ferguson and a one two with Kieran O’ Mahony saw Ferguson finish to the net to level the scores at 1-02 each at the 15th minute. We had a lot of possession for the rest of this half but scores were at a premium.

A third point by Barry John Keane left the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 1-03 to Rathmore’s 1-04. We lost David Mc Loughlin in this half through injury and we wish David a speedy recovery. The second half saw Rathmore extend their lead and led by 1-06 to Kerins O’Rahillys 1-03 after 5 minutes into the second half. But good play by David Moran, Cormac Coffey, and Danny O’Sullivan setting up the attacks we responded with points from Jack Savage with 2 points from frees to leave the scores at Kerins O’Rahillys 1-05 to Rathmore’s 1-08 at the 41st minute.

A great save by Garry Kissane when he stopped a certain goal kept us in the game. We failed to get scores until a high ball was well fielded by Tommy Walsh who was fouled in the square and the resultant penalty was well put away by David Moran to level the sides with 8 minutes remaining. Both sides tried for the winner but it was Rathmore who got the final score to win the game. It was a very close contested game but our return from all the possession we had wasn’t enough and a direct approach at times would have been better.

We now play either Milltown/Castlemaine or Dingle, who drew their game and replay in Dingle on Saturday the 30th, in the next round.

Junior Leagues Group 1 Game Strand Rd v Laune Rangers B was deferred to Monday the 25th May. Result next week. Next game Friday 29th May against Rathmore in Rathmore.

We played Castlegregory in Group 6 of the Junior League on Friday last in Strand Rd. Castle were the stronger team off the mark and got an early goal. We nearly responded with one of our own shortly after but it was stopped on the line and Castle went on to score a second. We responded well and some well taken frees and points from play left the half time score Charlie Kerins 0-09 Castlegregory B 2-04. We came out the stronger side in the second half and a well placed goal by Killian Moran put us ahead early on.

We were unlucky not to score another and Castlegregory took the upper hand from this on. We did score a further three points but Castle pulled away and the final score was Kerins O’Rahilly’s 1-12 Castlegregory 3-12.

Team and scorers were Jack Shortt, Daniel Finnegan, Jim Kennedy, Owen Edwards, Derek Horgan, Paudie Sheehy Cunningham, Kieran Mangan, Gary Nolan (0-02), Timmy O’Sullivan (0-01), John Dillane, Ben O’Neill, Kevin Johnson Horgan, Killian Moran (1-03), Damian Diggins Capt (0-03) and Christy McCannon. Subs Antony O’Connor for C McCannon, Darragh McElligott for J Kennedy, Gary Harrington for J Dillane, Jonathon Lyons for K Johnson Horgan and Tony Corridon. Next game is on Friday next 29th against Churchill in Strand Road. As always fixtures are subject to change so keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

We played Dr.Crokes last Sunday evening in our last County League game in which whoever won would qualify for the semi finals. Unfortunately we came out on the wrong side of a one point defeat. This was a very exciting game from start to finish in which there was never more than a couple of points between the two teams throughout the game. We dominated the first half but we went in 2pts down at half time 2.2 to 1.3.The second half was much the same as the first where we put in an excellent effort with an outstanding team performance by everyone. In the end we just came up short in which we can consider ourselves very unlucky not to get something out of the game. This has been a very positive league campaign which will stand to the girls in the future. Final Score: Dr Crokes 4.3 KOR 3.5. A big thank you to all parents for your support throughout the league. Panel T O’Connor, A O’Sullivan, L Scannell, S Healy, F Quirke, C Donnelly, S Griffin, C Crowe, N Moran, C Pierce, D O’Regan, S Wadding, L Linnane, O Nix, E Houston, H Moriarty, E Sweeney.
