Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club News

Seniors: Plans are already afoot by Micheál and his management team in preparation for next years campaign. We will once again compete in Division 1 of the county league which will kick off this year on the 11th March – about a week earlier than normal.

As the month of April has been designated a club month by the GAA hierarchy the club competitions will be run off over 5 weeks and our focus will be on the senior competition; it it proposed to play this on a league basis with two groups of 4 teams , with winners of each group contesting the final on May bank holiday week end.

We await confirmation of this and the master fixture list which should be to hand before year end. The county league will continue as normal throughout the year with where we will encounter the promoted sides from Division 2, namely Legion, Beaufort and Spa.

The county championship will be deferred until Sept and will be played off over 8 weeks to culminate with the final at the end of Oct.

Much to ponder on for the coming year then due to the revised formats and as always much to look forward to for players and supporters alike.

Juveniles:
Santa visited Kerins O’Rahillys on Sunday. We had yet another successful party with a puppet show, magic, disco, balloon animals and swords, face painting and of course a visit from the man himself Santa.

It was great to see the kids having such fun and it makes all the preparation worth it. There were plenty of treats throughout the party and Santa had a gift for every child. Santa’s parting request was that all the girls and boys are in bed early on Christmas Eve and that all our players, families, mentors and community have a very very happy Christmas and a happy New Year.

Many thanks to Treasa, Elishia, Santa, Kathy, Trish , Melissa, Lisa and parents for helping out. Thanks to Theresa from Heavenly Baked for her fab raffle prize and cupcakes.
Happy Christmas everyone!

Lotto: The jackpot continues to grow and will be €10,600 this coming Monday night, 18th Dec. There was no winning ticket in last week’s draw where the winning numbers drawn were: 2, 6, 13, & 32 – Rita Griffin was the lone match 3 winner and wins €25.

Tickets on sale all week from the club house for €2/3 for €5 for your chance to win the big prize before Christmas.

The five entrants for the special December draw which will be made on Monday 18th are: Danny Flynn, Tadgh, Sadbh & Marguerite, Maura Hartnett, Adrian Doody and Paul O’Sullivan.

The winners of the turkey vouchers are : Richard Walsh, Maura Hartnett & Billy Hobbert while Nettie Dowling, Lucy Barry & Kelly O’Sullivan were the winners of the ham vouchers.

Friends of Strand Road: The FOSR initiative launched some years is one of the major fundraisers by the club and helps to bring in approx €36k pa. It ensures that we can sustain our juvenile development programme year on year without having to resort to other revenue streams.

The committee of  FOSR will be making a renewed effort over the coming year to recruit new members to the scheme with some appealing initiatives to existing members in an effort to increase the membership. Further details will be revealed in early 2018.
