Annual 10k Run:
Next Sunday 28th Jan sees our annual run take place and a large entry is expected based on registrations to date and the interest expressed from various sources.

This year’s run is being kindly sponsored by Rory Kerins and his team at  Pro Plan Property Management Ltd and the club is extremely grateful to Rory for coming on board as our main sponsor – we would also like to acknowledge the support of our other sponsors who have lent their support.

The event will  commemorate the achievements of John Griffin, arguably the greatest athlete to have come from our area. John is a two times winner of the Dublin City Marathon, first in 1988 and successfully defending his title the following year. He has represented Ireland at  all levels in cross country running and marathons and has travelled the world wearing the green singlet – a special medal will be awarded to each finisher in his honour.

As well as the 10k road run, participants can also run/walk a 5k  – all entrants will be awarded a medal on completion and also will be chip timed – registration can be done on line @ https://register.sportstiming.ie/ps/event/KerinsORahillys10k2018 or on the morning of the race from 8.30am – registration costs €20.

Seniors:
Friday night next, 26th Jan sees the seniors kick off their Coiste Trá Lí league campaign with an away game to John Mitchels, throw in @ 8 pm.

Training to date has been well attended despite the inclement weather with players anxious to get ready for the year ahead. The town league competition is an ideal event in preparation for the county league and the club championship and affords management the opportunities to look at various options within the squad.

Strand Road: An application is currently with Coiste Ciarraí regarding the inclusion of a Strand Road team in county league division 5; we have a large panel of players and for those wishing to push for a starting place on the senior team, this division offers a perfect stepping stone for this purpose. We are awaiting a decision on our application and this is expected early next week following a meeting of the CCC.

Minors:
Our minor team this year will be managed by Paul Ryan who has been a selector for past few years with this age group. Paul brings a wealth of experience to the role and we wish him along with his selectors Norman Foley and John O’Connor, all the best for the coming year.

We will compete in Coiste Trá Lí town league which kicks off on 3rd Feb ( we have a bye on this date) and we commence on 10th Feb with a home game to John Mitchels. As regards county league, we will compete in Division 3A along with Listowel Emmets, Castleisland Desmonds, An Ghaeltacht, Glenflesk and Ardfert – schedule of fixtures will be advised shortly.

Junior Blues:
Chairman Adrian Doody and his committee are busy finalising their plans for the forthcoming season; Sunday March 4th will see the season kick off whilst the team managers for the U-12s, 14s & 16s continue with their preparations for 2018 – a registration date will be announced shortly as fixtures and competitions are currently being decided.

Lotto:
There was no winning ticket in last week’s lotto draw where the jackpot was €2,300; the winning numbers on the night were: 13, 21, 27 & 32 – John McCarthy and John Cronin matched 3 numbers and each wins €25. The 5 entrants for the special December draw are as follows: Pat Keane, Angela Brolly X 2, David Keane & Cora Savage – next week’s jackpot will be €2,400. Tickets can be purchased in the club house, €2 each, 3 for €5.
