10K Run:
We are just two weeks away from our 10k run, an event that has grown in popularity over the past few years. There is also the option of running/walking 5k as the event is essentially a community effort and one that all can enjoy.

Registration is €20, all events are chip timed and each finisher will receive a commemorative medal in honour of local great John Griffin, who was a two time winner of the Dublin marathon in 1988 & 1989.

Registration can be done on Sat 27th in the club house between the hours of 2 – 8pm and on the morning of the event from 8.30 am; registrations can also be done on line by logging onto primoevents and following the link to our 10k.

Seniors:
Our seniors are continuing with their pre season build up in advance of the opening rounds of the Coiste Trá Lí league which sees us first into action on Friday night the 26th Jan when we take on Mitchels on their own turf under lights; after that we entertain Ardfert on the first Sunday in February with games against Stacks, Na Gaeil & Ballymac to follow. See website for all times/dates etc.

Draft fixtures for the county senior football league have been released and sees us kicking off our Division 1 programme with an away game to Templenoe on the 11th March followed by a home fixture vs St Marys on the 25th March with An Ghaeltacht to follow after that – once the fixtures are confirmed they will be available to view on our website.

The make up  this year’s senior club championship was agreed at a special meeting of the Kerry County Board last week with the following format agreed upon:

The Championship will be organised on a League basis of two Groups of four teams, with each team in a Group playing the other teams once.

Each team will play one game at Home, one Away and one at a Neutral venue.

CCC will decide dates & venues.

The top team in each group qualify for the final.

Where teams finish level on points the following will be applied (in order outlined) to separate the teams:

1  Where two Teams only are involved – the outcome of the meeting of the two Teams in the Group.

2  Score difference – subtracting the total Scores against from the total Scores for.

3  Highest Total Score For.

4  Highest Total Goals For.

5   A Play-off.
It was agreed to have an ‘open draw’ to decide the make up of each group. (note this is specifically for the Senor Club Championship only)

The games will be played in April and should provide supporters with plenty of opportunities to see some of the best footballers in the county pitted against one another – the final is scheduled to be played either the last week end in April or the bank holiday week end in May.

An application to have a 2nd team compete in county league division 5 is currently with the Kerry County Board and it hoped that there will be a successful outcome to this to provide an outlet for the large  number of adult players currently in training.

Congratulations to our captain Danny and his fiancee Alison on the birth of their daughter Amelia who arrived safely on Sunday morning 14th Jan.

Charlies Bar:
After more than  30 years in charge, our popular hosts Tom & Eileen O’Shea will be saying goodbye to us on 31st Jan next and we would like to take this opportunity to wish them long life and happiness in their retirement. Both Tom & Eileen have been warm, affable hosts in all that time serving the finest of food and drink to the many patrons who frequent our facilities and while they will be missed, they will not be forgotten.

In saying goodbye to Tom & Eileen, we would like to extend a warm welcome to Mike O’Connor who is taking over the running of the club house and wish him all the best in his new venture. Mike has worked in Strand Road for over 4 years and is very much au fait with the club and its members having gotten to know many of the community in that time.

Lotto:
There was no winner of last week’s jackpot where the winning numbers drawn were: 13, 18, 20 & 27 – Sheila Coen and Jer Crean both matched 3 numbers and each wins €25. The five entrants for the special December draw are: Trevor Thomas, Billy Hobbert, Ann Gibson, Eileen Keane and Seán Walsh. Next week’s jackpot will now be €2,300 – we would like to thank all who continue to support this important fund raiser.
