Seniors:
Round 4 of the coiste Trá Lí league saw us take on Na Gaeil in Mitchels complex on Friday night last ( 16th) as Killeen pitch was unplayable.

Conditions were challenging to say the least but we set about our task with a good positive attitude and took the game to our opponents from the get go; our first score came on the 8th minute when Cian Sayers, operating at wing back, was up in support of the attack and notched a good score.

Gazza was dangerous as ever and he scored our second point shortly afterwards, with Shane McElligott then firing over two points in quick succession to leave us one point to the good after 15 mins, 0-04 to 0-03.

We were solid at the back with Danny O’Sullivan, Darragh McElligott and Rory O’Connor prominent.

Gazza added a further two points from frees to leave the score at half time, 0-06 to 0-04 in our favour – we also had some missed opportunities from frees and from play in this half mainly due to the hard work of Gavin O’Brien and John C at midfield who along with Chucky and Karl Mullins ensured there was a plentiful supply of  ball to our inside line.

The second period saw us on the front foot again and Gazza notched another minor from a free after a minute which was quickly cancelled out at the other end and there then followed a period of stalemate where neither side could add to the scoreboard.

However the decisive score arrived on the 12th minute when Gavin O’Brien carved his way through the opposition to find the net for a fine goal; two further scores from Gazza had us in front , 1-09 to 0-06 with 5  minutes remaining.

We ran the bench then introducing Kieran Mangan, Donagh O’Brien Johnny Keane &  Shane Flavin, and it was the latter two who finished our scoring with a point each. Na Gaeil had been threatening to breach our defence on a few occasions but Killian Moran was equal to the task, though he was eventually beaten for a consolation goal with the game in added time.

Our final game in this competition takes place next Sunday 25th when we host Ballymac in Strand Road @ 12.30

Team: Killian Moran, Jason O’Leary, Danny O’Sullivan, Darragh McElligott, Cian Sayers, Shane Brosnan, Rory O’Connor, Gavin O’Brien, John C O’Connor, Padraig Griffin, Chucky Carroll, Karl Mullins, Gazza Savage, Diarmuid O’Sullivan, Shane McElligott.

Subs used: Rory Molloy, Seán Griffin, Kieran Mangan, Donagh O’Brien, Shane Flavin & Johnny Keane.

Minors: Our minors were beaten in the first round of the Coiste Chiaraí league when going down to Churchill in Churchill on Sat last on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-11. We have a very young side and though leading 1-06 to 0-04 at half time ( TJ McMahon was our goalscorer), the physically stronger Churchill XV got on top in the 2nd half to win in the end by 5 points.

Our next game will be in the Coiste Trá Lí league next weekend when we travel to Ballymac on Sunday afternoon to take on the locals where throw in is @ 12.30

Strictly Club Dancing:
The official launch of our 2nd annual Strictly Club Dancing took place last Thursday night 15th Feb and proved to be a very entertaining occasion as the dancers and their sponsors were introduced to the media.

The committee have assembled a broad and diverse group to perform on the 16th March, an occasion which should not be missed.

We have a former all Ireland medal winner , former players, wives of former players and some future stars – we have people who have lived in the community all their lives and some who have been living here for past few months – we have students, councillors and health care workers – all in all a select group who are unselfishly giving of their time to raise some funds for the club, donate to 2 local charities as well as having some fun along the way – the night is on 16th March in the Brandon Hotel, with first act timed to kick off @ 8 pm.

Chairman Haulie Kerins thanked the dancers who have been practising now for over a month, their generous sponsors and in particular Nathan McDonnell of Ballyseedy Home and Garden ( and now also at  Tralee Bay Wetlands) for his continued sponsorship of the event which is most welcome.

He also thanked local woman Jackie O’Mahony who is our choreographer for her expertise and huge effort in getting the participants ready for the big night.   He ended by thanking the assembled media, Dermot Crean of Traleetoday and Kerrys Eye for their coverage and promotion.

Tickets for show will be on sale shortly from the club and other outlets – further news on social media and our website – www.kerinsorahillys.com
