Strand RoadCredit Union Co League Kerins O’Rahillys 0-10 Castleisland Desmonds 1-11

In a very competitive game a goal by Desmonds just after half time was enough to give them a cushion where they held onto the lead to the final whistle and gained them a valuable two Co League points.

Desmonds were first out of the blocks and had their first point in the 4th minute. We replied with a point from David Mc Loughlin. A great save by goalkeeper Gary Kissane straight after when he saved a point blank shot kept us well in the game.

Desmonds hit a purple patch and had 3 points on the trot to lead by 0-04 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-01 at the 15th minute. But we replied with points from Kieran O’Mahony, another from Jack Savage to put the bare minimum between the sides at the 20th minute.

Desmonds had two more points and we replied with a Jack Savage free to leave the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-04 to Desmonds 0-06. The second half saw Desmonds stretch their lead with an opening point and another great save by Gary Kissane kept us in the game.

But Desmonds pounced for the only goal of the game with an unstoppable shot to the net leaving them ahead by Desmonds 1-07 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-05 at the 37th minute our 5th point put over the bar by Danny Sullivan.

We had two further points from Jack Savage to leave the scores at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-07 to Desmonds 1-08 at the 40th minute. Both sides traded points after this and we had the deficit back to 3 points with 5 minutes left but Desmonds held on for a deserved win.

The loss of our Kerry players was enormous in this tightly contested game and it’s definitely a big factor in these Co League games which are so competitive.

Gary Kissane was outstanding in goals and he was well supported by Gavin Duffy, Danny Sullivan, Con Barrett and Kevin Walshe tried hard at mid field and Jack Savage, David Mc Loughlin, were the pick of the forwards.

Next game is on Saturday next away to Dr Crokes.
