Garvey’s Super Valu Senior Football Championship Round 2 Kerins O’Rahillys 0-20 Milltown/Castlemaine 1-14

A great display when our backs were to the wall down to 14 men for most of the game with a tough game against Milltown/Castlemaine which went down to the wire and we advance to the next round of the Co. Championship against East Kerry next week end.

We had the opening score when Barry John Keane put 1 over the bar. Both sides traded points and it was 3 points each after 11 minutes our other 2 points put over by Barry John Keane and John O Connor. Then the sending off and we were down to 14 men for the rest of the game.

But with Tommy Walsh in great form at full forward and Con Barrett winning great possession at mid field we added further points from Tommy Walsh, Barry John Keane, Giles O’Grady Dave McLoughlin and Cormac Coffey, to leave us ahead by 0-08 to Milltown/Castlemaine’s 0-04.

Barry John Keane and Tommy Walsh added further points to leave us ahead by 0-10 to Milltown/Castlemaine’s 0-04. A high ball in went over the backs and was finished to the net which brought Milltown/Castlemaine back in the game.

They followed with 2 further points to leave the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-10 to Milltown /Castlemaine 1-06.The second half saw the introduction of David Moran and Jack Savage for Kerins O’Rahillys. We had points from Tommy Walsh, Jack Savage and Barry John Keane and the teams were level on 4 occasions and we introduced Ross O’Callaghan, John Ferguson, Mitchell Donnelly and Tommy Begley for fresh legs such was the pace of the game and with 14 men the pressure was on from Milltown /Castlemaine who ran the ball at any opportunity.

Jack Savage was making a big impression at centre forward putting over 2 great points and with Barry John Keane also on song the teams were level at the 55th minute Kerins O’Rahillys 0-16 to Milltown/Castlemaine’s 1-13.

But with Tommy Walsh getting possession and being fouled the resultant frees put over by Jack Savage and a well taken point by Barry John Keane got us over the line and into the next round against East Kerry. This game is fixed for Saturday next the 3rd of October and will be played in Strand Road at 5pm. Extra time will be played in the event of a draw.
