Garvey’s Super Valu Senior Football Championship Round 3 Kerins O’Rahillys 4-19 East Kerry 2-08

A well deserved win with a great overall display with fine individual performances enabled us to advance to the quarter final of the Co. Championship with a big win over East Kerry.

It was East Kerry who dictated the opening minutes and led by 2 points to no score after 6 minutes. We had our first point from a free by Jack Savage, but straight after a well worked move saw East Kerry’s wing back finish to the net putting them ahead by 1-02 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-01 in the 10th minute and game on.

We steadied the ship with David Moran gaining valuable possession and Cormac Coffey setting up the attacks and John O’Connor linking up well with the rest of the forwards.

Two points by Jack Savage and in a move involving Tommy Walsh, and Greg O’Connell was finished to the net by Jack to leave us ahead by 1-03 to East Kerry’s 1-02 at the 17th minute.

We lost Con Barrett who was having a fine game to a harsh black card but with Tommy Walsh fielding some great ball we had further points from Jack Savage, Tommy Walsh and Barry John Keane to leave us ahead by 1-08 to East Kerry 1-05 at the 29th minute, and just on half time John Ferguson was put through and coolly slotted to the net to leave us ahead by 2-09 to East Kerry 1-05 at half time.

Though East Kerry had the opening score of the second half another well worked move saw Tommy Walsh float a ball across the square and the ever vigilant Greg O’Connell palmed the ball to the net leaving us ahead by 3-09 to East Kerry’s 1-06 and in the driving seat.

The next quarter saw Kerins O’Rahillys play some great football and points from Ross O’Callaghan, Tommy Walsh, Cormac Coffey, Jack Savage, John O’Connor and Barry John Keane had us ahead by 3-15 to East Kerry’s 1-06 at the 45th minute and the game as good as over.

Though East Kerry added on a few points and a goal we finished strongly with 2 points by Declan Quill and a great goal by David Mc Loughlin when he put a bullet to the top corner of the net to leave us worthy winners at the final whistle and advance to the quarter final. Gary Kissane made a fine save in the second half and had great kick outs.

Danny Sullivan at corner back put in a great hour and was well supported by Shane Brosnan, Cormac Coffey, Cian Sayers, Tom Begley, and Ross O’Callaghan.

David Moran until going off had a fine game and Tommy Walsh fielded some great ball and set up a pile of scores and others to impress were John O’Connor, John Ferguson, Greg O Connell, Barry John Keane until injured, David Mc Loughlin Declan Quill Gavin Duffy Martin Tierney and Gavin O’Brien who made his championship debut .

Speedy recovery to Giles O’Grady who went off injured early in the game with a shoulder injury. Our quarter final opponents are Killarney Legion and we will play them in Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday next the 10th at 4.30pm.

We wish the team and management the best of luck from everyone at the club.
