Lee Strand Town Championship Final Kerins O’Rahillys 0-9 Austin Stacks 1-9

We played old rivals Austin Stacks in the Town Championship Final last Sunday at the Ballymac pitch and went under on a scoreline of Austin Stacks 1-9 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-9.

A game that never rose to great heights and not a great game of football.

Austin Stacks opened the scoring when Kieran Donaghy fielded a high ball and set up Shane O’Callaghan for the opening and only goal of the game.

They went further ahead before we had our first point from the impressive Gavin O’Brien at full forward.

We added further points from Cormac Coffey and Jack Savage and were unlucky not to have a penalty in the 23rd minute when Gavin O’Brien seemed to be upended in the square.

Saying that our shooting was woeful as we had 9 wides alone in this half and you don’t win matches with wides like that. Both sides traded points with Jack Savage and Barry John Keane putting over for Kerins O’Rahillys to leave the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-4 to Austin Stacks 1-4.

Austin Stacks added on a few points in the second half and we replied with minors from Barry John Keane, Mark O’Sullivan and Declan Quill to leave the scores at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-7 to Austin Stacks 1-7 at the 43rd minute.

Though we had plenty of possession we never seemed to threaten for that elusive goal and though we had three points from Declan Quill {2 frees} and Con Barrett Austin Stacks ran out deserved winners at the final whistle.

Garry Kissane had a fine game in goals. In the backs Cormac Coffey put in a great hour and was ably assisted by Shane Brosnan, Ross O Callaghan, Gavin Duffy, Cian Sayers.

Others to impress were David Mc Loughlin, Con Barrett, Gavin O Brien, Barry John Keane, Jack Savage and subs Declan Quill and Mark Sullivan.

A minute’s silence was observed before the game as a mark of respect for the late Mike Quirke former Austin Stacks player and father of Michael and Sean Quirke, Kerins O Rahillys and Kerry.

Next game is Tralee Town Board Junior League final. This will be played in John Mitchels on Friday the 30th at 7pm and is against John Mitchels.

Note – All fixtures are subject to change. Changes will be posted on Facebook and Twitter.

Coaching and Development

With ever increasing playing numbers at all ages in the Club we are always anxious to ensure that every player is given the best possible coaching in the skills of the game. We are extremely grateful for the hard work and commitment of our members who volunteer to coach and assist in any way with each team. As in previous years we are looking for new people to get involved. We have had a very productive 2015 and look forward to the same in 2016. This would not be possible without our volunteers. Bearing this in mind and planning for the season ahead we would like to invite anyone who would be interested in getting involved in any team from Saturday Mornings to Minors to get in touch. “Many hands make light work”. Coaching courses will be provided as were in other years and can also be updated. If you feel you have time to give please contact Juvenile Chairman Dinny O’Connor on 0879574410 or Senior Chairman Frank O’Connor on 0877971862. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
