Credit Union Co League Div 1 Dingle 1-10 Kerins O’Rahillys 0-8

In gale force wind conditions Dingle overcame a strong challenge from Kerins O’Rahillys and were pushed all the way in this Co. League decider which was vital for Dingle to win to preserve their Division 1 status for 2016.

Dingle played with a strong win to their backs in the first half and two Cathal Bambury points had them ahead by 0-02 to Kerins O’Rahillys no score at the 6th minute.

Declan Quill opened the scoring for Kerins O’Rahillys with a well taken point from a free. Pa Sheehy had Dingles third point and Quill replied to leave the bare minimum between the sides at the 15th minute Kerins O’Rahillys 0-02 to Dingles 0-03.

Both sets of mid fielders were winning good possession with Con Barrett prominent for Kerins O’Rahillys ably assisted by Diarmuid O’Sullivan and Barry and Darragh Sullivan equally impressive for Dingle.

Points by Cathal Bambury, and two well taken points by Conor Geaney stretched Dingles lead with the wind to their backs and they led by 0-06 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-02 at the 23rd minute Kieran O’Mahony had Rahillys third point from play and the only goal of the game came straight after when Conor Geaney palmed a flighted ball across the goals to the net.

This goal stood to Dingle in the second half and a further point by Geaney left the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-03 to Dingles 1-07. The second half saw Kerins O’Rahillys with the wind and though Cathal Bambury had the opening score a point for Dingle, Kerins O’Rahillys thundered into the game and points by the impressive Declan Quill from frees (4) another from Kieran O Mahony had the scores at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-08 to Dingles 1-08 at the 46th minute and Kerins O’Rahillys dominating the game with a strong wind.

But Dingle dug deep and great play by Brendan Kelliher, Gareth Brosnan, Johnny B Brosnan, Matthew Flaherty and the O Sullivan brothers saw them put over points from Cathal Bambury and Conor Geaney (2) to give them a cushion to the end. Kieran O Mahony had a final point for Strand Road and the final whistle went much to the delight of the Dingle supporters. The whistle also marked the final time club stalwart and true blue Declan Quill would walk off the field with the senior team. He had made his decision that it was to be his final senior game with the club. He has given years of service at all levels and we want to thank him and wish him luck with his future involvement in whatever aspect of club life he chooses.

Coaching and Development

With ever increasing playing numbers at all ages in the Club we are always anxious to ensure that every player is given the best possible coaching in the skills of the game. We are extremely grateful for the hard work and commitment of our members who volunteer to coach and assist in any way with each team. As in previous years we are looking for new people to get involved.

We have had a very productive 2015 and look forward to the same in 2016. This would not be possible without our volunteers. Bearing this in mind and planning for the season ahead we would like to invite anyone who would be interested in getting involved in any team from Saturday Mornings to Minors to get in touch. “Many hands make light work”.
