Kerins O’Rahillys 10K 1916 Commemorative Run

Kerins O’Rahillys held their second 10K run on Sunday last.

It was a commemorative run and held to honour one of the men whose names we are privileged to have associated with our club.

The run honoured “The O’Rahilly” and we were very thankful to his Great grandson John O’Rahilly who made the journey from Dublin to meet everyone and to present the commemorative medals and trophies after the race.

The overall winners were in the men’s, 1st Stephen Young, 2nd Pat Dunworth and 3rd John Barrett. In the ladies race Catriona Barry crossed the line in first place with Jessica McCarthy 2nd and Caoimhe Casey 3rd.

The men’s team event was won by the Kerry Crusaders, David Toomey, Donal White, Andrew Purcell and John Barrett.

We would like to congratulate all of the category winners and also all of those who took part and finished the race. For many it was their first 10K and many more recorded personal bests on the day.

A remark made by one spectator at the finish line was about the positive atmosphere and that everyone finished with a smile on their face so we will see you all again next year.

All presentations were made in the clubhouse afterwards where everyone was treated to hot soup. We would like to thank Tom and Eileen O’Shea for this and their co-operation over the last few weeks.

Coiste Trá Lí League Kerins O’Rahillys 1-05 Austin Stacks 0-12

The minor season started on Saturday last when the Coiste Trá Lí Minor League got off to a start with our first round game against Austin Stacks in what was a bitterly cold, wet and windy Healy Park.

Austin Stacks proved the better side on the day and went in 0-07 points to Kerins O’Rahillys no score at half time. We didn’t have a great start to the second half with Austin Stacks starting off with 3 unanswered points.

As the wind died down we put up a better effort and eventually outscored our opposition by 1-05 to 0-04 with Evan Doody scoring 1-03 of this but it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap and Austin Stacks were overall winners on a score of 0-12 to Kerins O’Rahillys 1-05.

The next game will be Round 2 on Saturday 6-02-2016 3.30pm Kerins O’Rahillys v Ballymac.

Round 3 Saturday 13-02-2016 4.00pm Kerins O’Rahillys v Na Gaeil.

The Minor Co League starts on Saturday February 20th. We will be in Division 1 along with Dr Crokes, Firies, Gneeveguilla, Austin Stacks and Listowel Emmets.

We would like to wish new Minor Manager Declan Quill and his team the very best of luck for the year ahead.
