Credit Union Senior Co League Div 1 Round 3 Kerins O’Rahillys 1-12 v Templenoe 2-12

With both teams deadlocked at 12 points each at the 59th minute of the game it looked like this Co. League tie was destined for a draw but all the action took place in the last minute of normal time and injury time where three goals were scored and Templenoe emerged victorious.

It was a game where both sides dominated at various stages and both sides had missed opportunities. Templenoe led after 3 minutes with the first point of the game. We replied with a Jack Savage pointed free and Greg O’Connell had our second point in the 10th minute leaving the teams level at 2 points each.

Garry Kissane brought off a great save after this when Templenoe were through one and one and Kissane pulled off a great save. We had further points from Jack Savage, Cian Sayers, Greg O’Connell and John Ferguson to leave us ahead by 0-06 to Templenoe’s 0-05 at half time.

We were unlucky not to have a goal in this half when we split open the Templenoe defence but a Templenoe back got a hand to the ball and it went out for a 45. Though we had the first point in the second half per Jack Savage to extend our lead it was Templenoe who took over and had 6 points on the trot to lead by 0-11 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-07 at the 50th minute.

But we responded well and points by Jack Savage (3), Greg O’Connell, and a great run by the industrious Cormac Coffey had the teams level at the 59th minute.

We went for the winner at this juncture and looked to be in position to score a point but the attack broke down and Templenoe swept down for a goal. They had a second goal straight after but we attacked and a great move was finished to the net by Greg O’Connell.

We pressed hard for a goal but time ran out and Templenoe held on for victory. Shane Brosnan, Cormac Coffey, Andrew Thompson, Cian Sayers and David Murphy did well in the backs. Kevin Walshe and John C O’Connor put in a great hour mid field.

And up front Jack Savage spearheaded the attack and was well supported by Greg O’Connell, Diarmuid O’Sullivan, John Ferguson, and Kieran O’Mahony. Gary Kissane had a fine game in goals. Next game is the Senior Club Championship which will be played on Saturday next in Killarney. We play Killarney Legion at home at 6.30. There will be extra time in the event of a draw.
