Club Championship Kerins O’Rahillys 0-08 Legion 0-09.

We exited the club championship when going under by the bare minimum against Killarney side Legion played at the Direen pitch in ideal conditions on Saturday evening last.

There was nothing between the sides throughout the game and we had chances to draw and even win the game but a few wrong options and a below par performance from a lot of players told at the final whistle.

Both sides traded points in the first quarter with points from Greg O’Connell, Barry John Keane and Jack Savage had the scores at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-03 to Legions 0-04 at the 18th minute.

Legion pegged on a further point and led at half time by 0-05 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-04 our fourth point put over from a free by Barry John Keane. Our play was very disjointed in this half and both sides were guilty of missed opportunities.

John C O’Connor had a fine game at mid field in this half along with David Moran and both players gave it there all throughout the hour. We levelled the scores when Barry John Keane put over the bar making it 5 points a piece. But a second yellow for Jack Savage saw us reduced to 14 men and under pressure after.

Both sides traded points with John Ferguson and Tommy Walsh having minors for Kerins O’Rahillys and Legion going into the lead by 0-09 to 0-07 and 5 minutes remaining. We pressed hard for an equaliser with Danny Sullivan, Cormac Coffey, Shane Brosnan and Tommy Begley setting up the attacks.

A 45 expertly put over the bar by David Moran in the 59th minute left the bare minimum between the sides and though we had a few opportunities to draw level Legion survived for an important win and go on to the semi final. Gary Kissane once again brought a vital save and John Ferguson was unlucky not to have goaled in the dying moments when his shot was saved on the line and went over the bar.

We are now in the position to win the remaining club games or face Intermediate status next year. Our next game will be the Relegation Play off round 1 to be played on May 1st at 2.30pm in Farranfore.

We were drawn against Milltown/Castlemaine. There will be extra time in the event of a draw. We would like to wish Andrew Thompson a speedy recovery. Andrew came off injured on Saturday. Also best wishes to Con Barrett who goes for his surgery this week.

They played Currow on Sunday last the 17th. Currow proved the stronger side on the day but Kerins O’Rahillys played with a very young side and showed some great promise and had patches in the game when they dominated play. They were the better side for much of the second half but just couldn’t bridge the gap from the first half. Lessons were learnt and these will be taken forward to the next game which is to be confirmed so keep an eye on Facebook for details.

U16s Our U16s had their first game on Tuesday the 12th v Abbeydorney. Abbeydorney were stronger on the night but the girls didn’t give up and gave it their all right to the final whistle. They were out again on Thursday at 7 against Duagh in Strand Road. This was a much more evenly matched game with both sides playing lovely football on the night. It was one of the more exciting games played in Strand Road in recent times with the final score being Kerins O’Rahillys 4-06 Duagh 4-05. Thanks to all the girls who came out Tuesday and Thursday for games and also to our U14s for helping us out. Next game is away to Moyvane on the 28th.
