Senior Club Championship Relegation Playoff Rnd 1 Kerins O’Rahillys 4-11 Milltown/Castlemaine 2-12.

We had a deserved win in this relegation play off for Senior Championship played last Sunday at the Farranfore pitch.

It looked at half time that this game would go down to the wire but an explosive spell after half time when we kicked a goal and five points and followed up with a further two goals left us well ahead at the full time whistle.

The game was only a minute old when Kevin Walshe latched on to a Jack Savage pass and sent a high ball to the top of the net for Kerins O’Rahillys first goal.

But it was Milltown/Castlemaine who dominated and replied with a point and were awarded a penalty in the 6th minute where Gary Kissane brought off a great save and left us off the hook. Milltown/Castlemaine still pressed forward and led by 0-6 to Kerins O’Rahillys 1-0 at the 21st minute.

We were awarded a penalty at this juncture but David Morans shot hit the post and was cleared. We had our second score in the 24th minute when Jack Savage put over the bar from an acute angle and followed with a pointed free to leave the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 1-02 to Milltown/Castlemaines 0-07.

Whatever was said to the team at half time worked as the first 10 minutes of the second half saw us score 1-05 without reply.

A point by Jack Savage followed by a well taken goal by Barry John Keane and points by Greg O’Connell, Jack Savage, Cian Sayers and John Ferguson had us ahead by 2-07 to Milltown/Castlemaine 0-07 and looking good.

Then a mighty run through the middle by Tommy Walsh when he shook off three defenders and a low ground shot hit the net.

A minute after a great move involving several players was finished to the net by Kevin Walshe his second and leaving us ahead by 4-08 to Milltown/Castlemaines 0-10 at the 45th minute.

Though Milltown/Castlemaine had a goal and a few points we never looked in danger and our last point was put over the bar by the hard working David Mc Loughlin securing Championship status for 2017.

Gary Kissane had a fine game in goals and was well supported in the backs by Captain Danny Sullivan, Shane Brosnan, David Murphy, Cian Sayers and Tommy Begley. John C O’Connor and David Moran put in a good hour mid field while up front Jack Savage was the main architect of a lot of the scores and was well supported by David Mc Loughlin, Kevin Walshe, Tommy Walsh, Barry John Keane, John Ferguson and Greg O Connell.
