Credit Union Senior Co League Kerins O’Rahillys 2-12 Milltown/Castlemaine 2-12

A game of two halves where Kerins O’Rahillys dominated the first half and were well ahead in the first half and Milltown/Castlemaine made a great comeback in the second half and both sides could have snatched victory at the final whistle but it ended in a draw.

Feature of the game was the pairing of Diarmuid O’Sullivan and Gavin O’Brien at mid field and both players gave a great account of themselves. With Tommy Walsh again in great form and putting over early frees we went ahead and led by four points to Milltown/Castlemaine’s 1 point.

In one of the best moves of the game set up in the backline by Giles O’Grady who found Tommy Walsh, who passed to John Ferguson and the inrushing Owen O’Carroll billowed the net from close range.

Our second followed straight after when John Ferguson was on hand at the end of a passing move to shoot to the net from close range. Points by the impressive Kieran O’Mahony left us ahead by 2-6 to Milltown/Castlemaine’s 0-6 and looking good.

But it was Milltown\Castlemaine who came more into the game and points and their first goal at the three quarter stage brought them back into the game.

We replied with a series of points from Kieran O’Mahony both from play and frees with a lot of the frees coming off Tommy Walsh who was constantly fouled. We also had a great point from Diarmuid O’Sullivan in the closing stages from play and this looked like the winner.

We were under severe pressure but good work by Ryan Carroll, Danny O’Sullivan, David Murphy, Shane Brosnan, and Giles O’Grady repelled many of the attacks.

Gary Kissane brought of two brilliant saves and both sides in the last five minutes tried for the winner with Milltown/Castlemaine lucky to stop a certain goal when it was saved on the line by one of their backs. The final whistle sounded and the game finished in a draw.

Thoughts and Prayers

Our thoughts and prayers are with Donie (Bronson) O’Sullivan, his wife Peggy and the O’Sullivan family as Donie battles with very serious illness at this time.

Sympathies

As we go to press, the death has occurred of Finola Kerins (nee O’Mahony) wife of our Club President Micheál Kerins and mother of our secretary Haulie, also Seán & Rory who are mentors in the club, and Tara who lives in Cork.

Finola in her younger life trained and worked as a nurse. She was an avid supporter of her family’s involvement in the club. Finola and Micheál celebrated 55 years of marriage earlier this month.

We extend our sincere sympathies to Micheál and the Kerins family at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam

It was also with great sadness we came to hear of the sudden death of Paddy Molloy on Saturday afternoon. Paddy was a great club and community man over many decades.

He gave great service to the community games since the 1970’s. He was scoreboard man every Sunday for many years with our club. He also was very active keeping the flowerbeds in Kerins Park looking their very best.

He was ever present at 11 mass on a Sunday Morning in The Dominicans where he assisted with the collection and where he was very much at home. Paddy, a true gentleman who had a friendly word for all that he met. We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Dolly and the Molloy family. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Sincere Sympathy is expressed to the family of John O’Mahony (Jack) Clash West and Kevin Barry’s Villas Tralee, Lally (Kathleen) Lawlor  (nee Duggan) Ashe St and Ballyroe Tralee and Bill Shanahan Knockmoyle, Ardfert and Waterford. May they rest in peace.
