Kerins CrestSenior County League Division 1 Kerins O’Rahillys 1-05 Austin Stacks 1-15

We made the short trip to Connolly Park on Sat night to play the locals in the rearranged round 5 fixture. The timing of this match could not have come at a worse time given the unavailability of so many first choice players through Kerry commitments, injury, exams and holidays resulting in many of the squad getting their first taste of football at this level.

We lost the toss and faced the elements in the first half but held our own for much of the opening half with stubborn defending and were only 4 adrift at half time, 0-7 to 1-0, with Kevin Walshe blasting to the net on 15 mins.

However, on the turnover, Stacks gained a strong foothold around the middle and were 0-10 to 1-0 clear after 12 mins; we rallied briefly with points from Greg O’Connell, Gearoid Savage and Johnny Keane but a flurry of late scores from The Rock including a goal saw them home on a final scoreline of 1-15 to 1-5.

We play Kenmare next week away on Saturday night in our penultimate league game and we would hope that some of the absentees from Saturday night will be available for the long journey south.
