Senior Town Championship Semi-Final Kerins O’Rahillys 0-17 Austin Stacks 2-10

We made the short journey across town to Connolly Park on Sat evening to take on the locals in the town board championship semi-final.

We fielded a strong team though minus the services of Barry John, Jack and Ross along with the recovering Giles.

We started brightly, aided by the breeze and it was clear from the outset that Tommy at full forward was to be the focal point of our attacks and he duly delivered early pointing from play and from a free for a foul on himself.

Ahead by 2 points to one, we conceded a soft goal when caught coming out with the ball but worked our way back into the game with good play from David Moran around the middle and some strong play in defence from Cormac and Cian Sayers. It was 1-4 to 0-4 when our defence was again breached to leave the score after 15 mins at 2-4 to 0-4.

From here to half time we dominated around the middle and with Tommy unbeatable up front to leave the scores level at the short whistle 0-11 to 2-5, with Tommy contributing 0-7 of our total; however it was a score from the boot of Kieran O’Mahony before half time that lifted the team with no fewer than 5 players handling before Kieran split the posts.

The second half saw the Rock up the intensity with the introduction of Wayne Guthrie and Jack Morgan and it was tit for tat thereafter with the scores level on no fewer than 3 occasions as both sides sought the upper hand.

The introduction of Jack on 15 mins gave us more impetus up front while the deployment of Shane Brosnan on the edge of the square added more solidity to our backs.

David was now lording the skies in the middle and we found ourselves one point down entering the final minutes- it was here that we dug really deep and points from David from a mammoth free left us trailing by one and with Cormac pushing up on the kick out to kick a capital score to leave the sides level with time almost up.

The final score was ours when following good play around the middle Kieran O’Mahony found the range with a fine effort from 40 yards.

The final whistle came shortly afterwards and we were through to the final; on the night Tommy with 9 points was the stand out performer closely followed by David at midfield, Shane Brosnan, Cormac & Cian in defence with Con Barrett and Kieran up front contributing when the game was in the melting pot.

The final vs Ballymac is fixed for Strand Rd next Sunday.

Juvenile News
Saturday Morning Club (u6/8/10 boys & girls)

The u6 & u8 boys were to head to Blennerville on Sunday morning to play St Pats but due to the heavy rain this trip had to be cancelled. I’m sure there were a lot of very disappointed small people out there who if they got their way they would have been in Blennerville.

U10 Boys

The u10 boys were much luckier. The left the club Saturday morning at 7.45 for an u10 Munster Blitz in Mallow. We had 2 teams up there and both teams played 3 games each and very impressively won all games. They were treated to a meal in the club when they returned. Thanks to the parents who travelled on the bus to help Adrian, Cathal and Peter out on the day.

The u8 boys and the u8 & u10 girls continued training last Saturday morning in Healy Park and had good numbers and beautiful sunny conditions.

Next Saturday (22nd) will be out last training session of 2017. It has been a very busy year with training continuing throughout the summer and great credit goes out to all the coaches who gave up their time everySaturday morning and also on Thursday evenings. Also a big thank you to all the parents who also made sure that the kids were at training every week. On Saturday next we will hopefully have one or two visiting teams and details of this will be sent by text during the week once all details are finalised so be sure to be at Ballyrickard on Saturday at 11am.

U12/U14/U16 BOYS

All training and games have now finished for the moment. We will be sorting indoor training in the coming weeks and details will be sent out by text when this is finalised.
Ladies News
U12 girls – On the 13th October the Kerins O’Rahillys players travelled to Abbeydorney to play a challenge game against Abbeydorney girls. The Kerins O’Rahillys girls got off to a great start with some very accurate points from Kate Kerins and Aoibin O’Connor McCarthy. They gave a great display of hand passing and kicking. Sarah Costello played extremely well to keep the Kerins O’Rahillys girls ahead at half time.Abbeydorney started strong in the 2nd half and came back into the game. Our girls showed great character by regaining control of the game, and their hard work during the year showed as they finished the game very strong and got the result they deserved. Keelan Coffey, Hollie Leane and Bronagh Carroll were very strong in defence. Training continues in Ballyrickard on Friday at 6.30. However with the evenings drawing in this will be changing so contact coaches for details. If you have any queries about training contact Marie Nix on 0879734923.
U14 girls – The girls are training with Manager Jerome Linnane and mentors Mark and Aishling. Contact Jerome for information on 0876114661
