Strictly Come Dancing:

The Healy Rooms were the place to be last Friday night 17th Feb as the club launched its inaugural Strictly Come Dancing which will take place on Saturday night the 25th March in the Mount Brandon Hotel.

The talk, for once was not on line balls, third man tackles and poor refereeing but the bachata and the bolero, the foxtrot to the tango and there was even mention of a waltz or two.

Chairman, Haulie Kerins presided over the launch and outlined the motivation behind same citing the need to raise funds to carry out some badly needed repairs and also to hold an event in which all the community can become involved.

The dancers along with their sponsors were introduced to the large gathering with the judges for the night also announced; the judges come from the world of politics, business & journalism with Michael Healy Rae, Caroline McEnery, Billy Keane and Deirdre Walsh being handed the unenviable task of selecting a winner from the participants.

As well as raising funds for the club,  a charity selected by the winning couple will benefit to the tune of €500. Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre are coming on board as the main sponsor with a very generous door prize on offer compliments of the Garvey Group.

Senior Football:

We played hosts to John Mitchels on Sunday in our third game in the Tralee town league; conditions were dry but heavy underfoot and both sets of players struggled in the conditions.Though playing with a slight breeze into the score board end in the first half we were sluggish and found it hard to break down the defensive structure employed by our opponents. Two pointed frees from Tommy Walsh plus a Kieran O’Mahony point from play had us in front 0-03 to nil after 10 minutes.  Mitchels came more into the game as the half progressed to leave the half time score at 0-06 to 0-04 with Kieran adding a brace and John Ferguson one.

The second half saw us one point ahead after 7 minutes but then a fine move involving Karl Mullins, Con Barrett & Tommy Walsh saw Kieran O’Mahony on hand to palm to the net to give us some breathing space. A couple of quick minors from Karl & John Ferguson pushed us further ahead before another Kieran O’Mahony goal decided the game when leaving the score at 2-09 to 0-06. The game was over as a contest at this stage and further scores from John Ferguson, Rory Molloy (2), Tommy, Johnny Keane and Kieran O’Mahony again saw us finish deserving winners on a score line of 2-16 to 0-11. This was a satisfying outcome to a tough game and one which should stand to us as the season progresses. Our final league game is in Ballymac next Sunday against the locals with a 12.30 throw in.

Minors: The minors had no outing this week end due to the CBS game but are back in action this coming Tuesday 21st Feb.  John Mitchels are again the visitors – this game throws in @ 4.00 pm

Junior Blues: The build up to the season ahead continued at the week end with a very successful “Coaching Workshop” on Friday night and Saturday morning. Over 20 coaches attended a session on Friday night in the club given by Micheál Quirke who concentrated on the theory aspect of coaching/ training; on Sat morning, Micheal took his charges outdoors for a practical session and was ably assisted by Alan O’Sullivan and Giles O’Grady. All in all this was a worthwhile exercise for all the coaches tasked with being in charge of the academy sessions for the year.

Registration for the coming year will take place on Sat next 25th Feb in Charlies Bistro from 10.00 am to 3.00pm; subscription for the year is just €30 with family membership for €50 – family membership covers girls to aged 10 and boys to aged up to U16.

Corn Uí Mhuirí: Tralee CBS are finally into the final after overcoming Coláiste Chríost Rí from Turners Cross, Cork in the second replay played in Ballyvourney on Sat last; once again our players were to the fore with Shane Foley keeping a clean sheet and Tom Hoare getting the vital goal in a 1-10 to 0-11 win. Aaron Roche too made an appearance in the 2nd half; the final goes ahead this coming Sat in Austin Stack Park where throw in is @ 4.30 pm against favourites St Brendans of Killarney.

Club Lotto: There was no winner of this weeks draw where the winning numbers drawn were: 4, 18, 23 & 30. There were 3 match 3 winners, each receiving €25 and they were: Kay Crean, Noreen Commane & Paul Rusk. Next weeks draw will be for a jackpot of €6,300.
