Seniors: Having not played a game for the past 3 weeks we were back in action again this week with the final game in the Tralee town league when we played Ballymac in their own pitch with a place in the final up for grabs.

We fielded a strong side with one eye on the upcoming county league when we travel to Dingle next week.

Ballymac were aided by the strong wind in the first half and though we created plenty of chances we were not clinical in our execution with plenty of chances going begging, letting the locals off the hook on a few occasions which kept the sides fairly even through out the half; at the short whistle we trailed by one point, 0-7 to 1-3 with our scores coming from Gearoid Savage, David Murphy, Tommy Walsh and a goal from the free scoring Kieran O’Mahony.

We picked up the pace in the 2nd half and scores from Rory Molloy, Tommy and Kieran O’Mahony had us in front 1-06 to 0-07 when in the 12th minute Tommy Walsh was fouled in the square resulting in the referee pointing to the spot from which Kieran O’Mahony fired low to the keepers left for a fine score, 2-06 to 0-07.

We added a further 3 points through Tommy Begley, Tommy Walsh & Kieran O’Mahony before Ballymac had their first point of the half in the 22nd minute.

From there to the finish we tacked on a further 3 scores via Tommy Walsh (2) and Kieran O’Mahony again, to leave the final score @ 2-12 to 0-10. Best on the day were Shane Brosnan, Tommy Begley, Karl Mullins, Rory Molloy with Kieran O’Mahony ( 2-03) and Tommy Walsh (0-05) being the pick of the forward line.

We now play Austin Stacks in the final with a date to be finalised in the coming weeks.

County League: We play our opening game in Division 1 next Saturday 18th March when we travel to Dingle to take on the locals; throw in is at 2 pm and support would be greatly appreciated.

Minors: We were away to Cordal/Scart on Sat last in Round 2 of the county league with game being played in Scartaglin. The opposition had the benefit of a slight breeze in the first half and went in leading by 3-06 to 3-03 at half time – our goals were chalked up by Gearoid Dillane, Darragh Fitzgerald and Sean Collins.

On the resumption, Cordal/Scart forged further ahead but our lads showed great spirit in pegging them back and with time ticking away we were awarded a penalty when Barry Foley was fouled in the square when bravely going down on a breaking ball.

Gearoid Dillane duly did the business slotting home and though the margin was reduced to one, some great defending kept our noses in front to the final whistle for a great win.

This was a perfect response from last weekend’s game and credit to the lads for pulling off a fine win.

Along with the aforementioned we had outstanding performers in goalkeeper Thomas Houston, defenders Kevin Browne & Deaglan Crowe, midfielders Sean Griffin and Aaron Roche and plus Gearoid Dillane, Darragh Fitzgerald and Conor Hayes when introduced in attack.

Our next game in this competition goes ahead on St Patrick’s Day when we welcome Rathmore for a home game where throw in is at 15.30

U14

Our U-14s took on Na Gaeil in Ballyrickard on Sunday last in the town league; Na Gaeil were wind assisted in the first half, and took the game to the home side in the beginning; scores were at a premium and trailing by 2 points to 1, Eric McMahon pounced for an opportunist goal; however Na Gaeil hit back and bagged two goals before the interval to go in leading at half time on a scoreline of 2-4 to 1-2.

On the resumption, we made the running and were only 3 points adrift when Na Gaeil struck for their 3rd goal and a 4th soon followed.

They appeared to be coasting but Jack Savage had other ideas and bagged two goals in the dying minutes to set up a nervy ending for the visitors. It was too little, too late however with Na Gaeil running out deserving winners, 4-10 to 4-05. This was a good workout for all involved and bodes well for our fortunes in the upcoming county league.

Kerry U-21: Kerry came through a searching test of their character on Weds night last ( 8th March) when accounting for Clare in the opening round of the Munster championship. The scoreline of 1-17 to 2-10 does not tell the true story but we progress and now play Waterford away this coming Weds night in Dungarvan.

The winners will advance to the Munster final on Weds night 29th March where the winners of Limerick/Cork will await. Cormac Coffey was introduced with about 10 minutes left to play and performed well – we hope that he will see more game as we progress in the competition.

Club Lotto: There was no winner of last week’s jackpot where the winning numbers were: 10, 15, 17 & 19. There were 2 lucky Match 3 winners in Martin Hughes & Kay Tobin. The jackpot next week will rise to €6,600 so play early for your chance to win or share in this prize. Once again we would like to thank you for your support which is greatly appreciated.
