Strictly Come Dancing: A recommended form of relaxation or relaxation therapy is to ” dance like nobody is watching” – well, dancing with 1000 + pair of eyes watching is another matter all together but that’s just what happened in the Brandon Hotel on Sat night last at our inaugural never to be forgotten fund raiser.

From the moment the dancers took to the floor for their spine tingling opening group dance the atmosphere was electric and the frisson reverberated throughout the auditorium for the following 3 plus hours.

After the opening half, the interval was welcomed just to draw breath but the entertainment continued unabated right through each contestant and reached a crescendo with the concluding couples.

Each and every contestant contributed in their own unique way to ensure everyone went home with a smile on their face.

For the record, Ogie Moran displayed all his dexterity which we so fondly remember him for in his Kerry days ably accompanied by Eileen O’Shea and they were the popular vote winners; Rosie McGrath and her London partner, Dominic Rollo Walker brought the house down with their performance and they too were very popular judges winners.

On the night there were no losers – everyone benefited from being present at what was an outstanding event and talk is already turning to next year’s event.

Well done to everybody – as chairman Haulie Kerins stated at the end, there has been new life breathed into our club over the last few months and long may it continue.

Seniors: We welcomed Miltown /Castlemaine to Strand Rd on Sat last for round 2 of the county league and after an oft times feisty encounter, the sides finished level on a scoreline of 1-13 to Milltown’s 0-16.

On a perfect day for football, we started like the proverbial train racing into a 3 point to nil lead after 9 minutes with scores, all from play, from Rory Molloy, Tommy Walsh & Kieran O’Mahony; indeed Kierans point which went over off the crossbar was the move of the match, with 4 players handling in a sweeping move from defence and deserved a green flag.

Milltown have proven doughty performers in the past and worked their way back into the game to leave the half time score at 0-08 to 0-07 in our favour with Tommy contributing a further 3 points and Gearoid Savage and Cian Sayers chipping in with one each. Unfortunately we lost Con Barrett to injury just like in the Dingle game.

On the resumption, scores were tied at 0-09 each when John Ferguson latched on to a long ball to score an opportunist goal to put us three in front after 11 minutes.

It was tit for tat from there to the finish and though we looked to have sewn up the points with a Gearoid Savage free on 30 minutes there was a further 4 minutes injury time and almost on the final whistle Milltown manufactured a free close in to tie the scores.

This was a disappointing result overall, a point dropped and further injuries to regulars Con Barrett and Ross O’Callaghan. We are scheduled to play Stacks in the final of Tralee town league on Sat next 1st April at 18.30, at a venue to be decided. Keep an eye on Facebook for further inforamation.

Minors: Our minors having beaten division 1 side Na Gaeil in Tralee town league travelled to Listowel on Sat but were no match for the locals, losing on a final score of 2-15 to 0-08. We next play Killarney Legion at home on Sat 1st April.
