Seniors: We met age old town rivals Austin Stacks in the final of the Tralee town board league on Easter Sat night last in Austin Stack Park.

Both teams fielded strong line outs with Kieran Donaghy and David Moran respectively the only notable absentees.

Stacks had the aid of the breeze in the first half and were 0-02 to nil in front after 8 mins when we had our first score on the night from Barry John Keane who split the posts for a good score – indeed Barry John, though marked by Ronan Shanahan was to prove the top marksman over the hour when he amassed 1-09, 0-05 of which came from frees.

Scores were traded from here to the 23rd minute when we were exposed at the back and wing forward Sean Dukes fired low to Gary Kissanes right for a good score; when Shane O’Callaghan added another point shortly afterwards, we trailed 1-07 to 0-06 with less than five minutes to the half time whistle.

Then, a quick drive from defence by the impressive David Murphy saw him deep in the heart of the Stacks defence and quick hands from Karl Mullins & Tommy Walsh saw Barry John palm to the net to leave just a point between the sides at the short whistle.

The Rock started the second half on the front foot and they quickly added to the their half time lead to push 3 points ahead , 1-09 to 1-06.

However, Barry John and Tommy were proving a real handful in the full forward line and both added points to leave the minimum between the sides after 10 minutes.

Again, Stacks went three up by the 12th minute but in a sweeping move from midfield by Gavin O’Brien, Barry John flicked the ball goalwards and Tommy did the rest palming  in over the stranded keeper to level matters; we now kicked on and dictating matters in the middle eight through Gavin, Tom Hoare and the impressive Rory Molloy we soon went three clear, 2-11 to 1-11 with efforts from Barry John ( 2) and Tommy.

Down the home straight now we maintained our 3 point advantage and indeed pushed this to four by the end on a final score line of 2-15 to 1-14. This was a great encounter for both sides with the senior club championship now coming up this week after the demise of the Kerry U-21s vs Galway.

Kerry U-21s: Galway stunned Kerry in Cusack Park Ennis on Sat last winning on a final score line of 2-14 to 2-10; the damage was done in the first half which saw the Tribesmen race into a 1-08 to 0-01 point lead after 15 minutes; Kerry fought valiantly to the end but it was a bridge too far particularly when Barry O’Sullivan was dismissed for a second yellow card offence after 15 minutes of the second half. Commiserations to all involved but especially to Alan O’Sullivan and Cormac Coffey who was introduced briefly towards the end.
