Seniors  We played host to Kenmare in the first round of the Castleisland Mart Senior Club Championship in Strand Road on Sunday 23rd April 2017 and disappointingly exited the Championship after a 1 point defeat 1-13 to 1-14.

We were forced to lineout without David Moran,John Ferguson Con Barrett & Ross O’Callaghan who were all carrying knocks.

Kenmare started the brighter and raced into a 2 point to nil lead  after a couple of minutes before Rory Molloy opened our account and Jack Savage levelled the score at 0-2 each after 5 minutes.

Kenmare were employing a blanket defence and were utilising full forward Paul O’Connor to full effect who had points in the 7th, 8th and 10th minutes to leave Kenmare 0-8 to 0-4 ahead after 23 minutes on the clock.  We upped our game from here until half time and had points through Gavin O’Brien and Barry John Keane from play to leave us just 2 adrift at the interval.

On the resumption Paul O’Connor again and wing forward Donal O’Sullivan added to Kenmare’s tally to leave them 4 ahead however, we then hit a purple patch and points from Barry John Keane plus a penalty from Barry John after Tommy Walsh had been hauled down in the square saw us level the tie:  Jack Savage edged us ahead from a free and Barry John was again on target from a placed ball to leave us 2 points ahead after 15 minutes 1-9 to 0-10.

It looked like we would kick on from here but some careless play in defence saw us concede two soft scores and when a dangerous through ball was claimed by Gary Kissane in the goalmouth he shipped a heavy blow which resulted in him having to leave the pitch.

His replacement Shane Foley, was soon under pressure from Kenmare and high ball into the square resulted in Kenmare obtaining a fortuitous goal.  A lengthy stoppage then ensued as Gary was attended to on the sideline with an Ambulance being called to assist him.

When play resumed we cut the deficit to 2 points but could not get through for the goal we so badly needed.  We did reduce the margin to the minimum but could not get the equalising score.

We now await a draw to see who we are paired  with in next week’s relegation play-off.  The draw between Dingle and Legion should we have to play the losers of this game could delay this game however.

We would like to wish Gary a speedy recovery and look forward to him returning between the posts asap.

U-14 Boys Féile Qualifying Group  Took place on last Wednesday night 19th April 2017 in Strand Road and Healy Park where we were pitted against Ardfert, Moyvane, and St. Senan’s.  Having beaten Moyvane 1-01 to 0-03 we were no match for Ardfert losing out on a scoreline of 2-05 to 1-02 and eventually losing the second game to St. Senan’s on a score of 2-05 to 0-05.  These results meant that Ardfert qualified and we had to play off with Moyvane and St. Senan’s on Sunday 23rd in Mountcoal where we eventaully lost out to Moyvane on scoring difference.  Well done to all the boys and management for their efforts.

We wish Thomas Maguire a speedy recovery from his hand injury  – hope to see you back playing soon Thomas.
